Dauntless And Fae Farm’s Future Left Uncertain With Phoenix Lab’s Studio Layoffs

Today brings a challenging situation at Phoenix Labs. We’ve had to make a tough choice, which involves letting go of most of our team as part of some unfortunate yet essential adjustments in our workflow. We acknowledge and are incredibly grateful for the efforts of each person affected by this change. Their skills, commitment, and imagination have made a lasting impact on our company and our games.

Regarding the two games, Phoenix Labs explains that they’ll provide further information in the upcoming weeks concerning how this impacts Dauntless and Fae Farm. In the meantime, their primary concern is assisting those involved during this transition period.

Previously, Phoenix Labs had to let go of a large number of employees, approximately 100, back in May of the previous year. Additionally, they halted work on all their forthcoming projects to concentrate solely on the two games that were already released by the studio.

2025’s first month has seen more violence continue. Just yesterday, it was announced that Ubisoft is shutting down one of their British studios, impacting a total of 185 employees spread across different studios.

For players continuing with Dauntless and Fae Farm, here’s the situation: We’re not yet certain about the future of these free-to-play games developed by Phoenix Labs. Will they pass ownership to another company? Could they manage with their remaining team? Or is there a possibility that they might shut down the games altogether? At this point, we don’t have enough information to say for sure. As soon as we learn more, we’ll keep our readers updated.

2019 saw the launch of Dauntless, a live-action role-playing game (RPG) that lets players battle Behemoths on both consoles and PC. However, the recent major update, titled “Awakening,” launched for consoles and PC last month, has drawn criticism from its player base due to changes in progression and the inclusion of loot boxes.

If you’re eager to play the game, I advise you to jump in right away since the servers are currently active. We can’t guarantee they’ll remain online after things calm down.
