The second film has recently been unveiled and it quickly seized the top spot at the box office during its opening weekend. Thunderbolts* surpassed Chris Evans’ Captain America, and even though everyone is still basking in the euphoria of its success, there’s already talk among writers about a potential MCU project that was reportedly put on hold. If this project comes to fruition, fans will undoubtedly be thrilled, as it has been more than five years since it was initially announced.

David S. Goyer, who wrote Wesley Snipes’ Blade trilogy, recently spoke with ScreenRant about a possible reboot. When asked if he would participate in the project if Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige requested it, Goyer expressed his openness to returning to the Marvel Universe. Given his past involvement with the vampire hunter character through writing and directing, Goyer stated that he has always admired Blade and is eager to revisit him. Moreover, he mentioned being curious about why the reboot has been delayed for so long.

I’ve been watching from the side, questioning, “What on earth is happening? Why is this taking so much time?” As a massive Marvel enthusiast, I must admit, I’m completely baffled.

At the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con, Feige unveiled plans for a reboot of the Blade series, with Mahershala Ali stepping into the lead role. During the event, Ali sported a Blade baseball cap. However, five years on, there’s been no concrete news about the reboot following its removal from Marvel Studios’ 2025 release schedule. A source has hinted that the project has been scrapped, but Marvel is keen for Ali to portray Blade in another MCU venture, albeit not a solo film. Speculation surrounding the movie’s cancellation escalated after one of the original Blade actors shared a disheartening update about the film. Delroy Lindo revealed some aspects of his character in the upcoming MCU project, describing it as “thrilling.” Yet, he didn’t provide any specific insights into the project’s advancement beyond stating that it encountered some challenges.

David S. Goyer Is Wondering What Is Taking Marvel So Long With Blade, Just Like The Rest Of Us

It appears that Marvel hasn’t publicly confirmed the termination of Mahershala Ali’s _Blade_ project, hinting that it may be under development but not currently a top priority. However, various reports suggest that the project was secretly canceled, yet Marvel Studios is keen on retaining Ali to depict the Daywalker in other productions. Consequently, Ali remains connected to the beloved character. Given Guillermo del Toro’s expressed interest in the project, there’s a possibility it could come to fruition eventually.

There’s been talk that Ali is being selective about the script, which might be one of the reasons for the delay. Since Goyer already knows the Blade universe, he could write a screenplay that both Ali and Feige are expected to accept. Moreover, Goyer is well-known in superhero films due to his work on Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. As for Blade, when Snipes played him again in Deadpool & Wolverine, it sparked a lot of excitement, making it essential for Marvel to find a way to bring the vampire hunter back to the cinema.
