The upcoming PlayStation 5 version of “Days Gone Remastered” is hinting at significant enhancements. Over five years have elapsed since its initial launch on PS4, and more recently, a PC adaptation in 2021. Developers at Bend Studio are optimistic that this updated edition will offer an even more immersive experience, leveraging the advanced technologies provided by Sony.

Back in February 2025, I couldn’t contain my excitement when the PlayStation State of Play event officially announced the remastered version of Days Gone! The release date was set for April 25, and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. However, the news that Sony had reportedly turned down a sequel left many fans, including myself, feeling a bit let down. Yet, the announcement of the remaster still generated a lot of positive buzz within the gaming community. A clear demonstration of our enthusiasm was the brisk start to pre-orders for Days Gone Remastered.

In a chat on the PlayStation Blog, Kevin McAllister from Bend Studio, both creative director and product lead, assured fans that they would see significant enhancements in the remastered version of Days Gone. During this discussion about visual upgrades, he highlighted brighter lighting, superior shadow quality, deeper fog effects, but what truly stood out was a larger number of Freakers. McAllister also disclosed details for a new game mode in Days Gone Remastered, called Horde Assault, hinting at the inclusion of much larger swarms of Freakers, with some hordes containing over 800 enemies.

Days Gone Remastered’s Improvements Will Be Evident

Discussing the visual improvements in the PS5 version, McAllister stated that Days Gone was already a highly realistic game, but he thinks the team has significantly heightened that realism with the capabilities of Sony’s latest console. However, it’s not just about better graphics. As Bend Studio’s creative and product lead made clear, it also offers significant gameplay improvements. Excitingly, Days Gone Remastered comes packed with ten hours of new content, as well as a range of fresh weapons and maps, which aligns with McAllister’s assertions about the extent of the upgrade.

Lucky for fans, Bend Studio’s upcoming remaster of Horde Assault isn’t the sole innovation; hardcore gamers can also tackle a specialized Speedrun Mode. This mode records gameplay time and skips cinematics automatically. It’s important to mention that while numerous enhancements are tailored to utilize the PS5’s capabilities, they’ll boost the experience on PC as well. At present, the Steam wishlist is available for Days Gone’s Broken Road DLC, which plans to incorporate certain remastered features into the original game. For those interested, both the PS5 remaster and the PC DLC are scheduled to release simultaneously on April 25, 2025.
