Ever since Daima wrapped up its impressive journey, there’s been a buzzing anticipation within our community, dreaming that one day we might catch wind of DBS resurfacing. But a recent tweet from Toei Animation has sparked concern among fans about the fate of our beloved anime series.

Toei Celebrates Seven-Year Anniversary Of Dragon Ball Super Final Episode

The Celebratory Post Talks About The Series’ “Last Episode”

Seven years ago, on March 25th, 2018, Toei Animation aired the final episode of Dragon Ball Super. Now, to commemorate this anniversary, the animation studio has taken to their social media platform (formerly Twitter) to celebrate with fans. While it’s always great to reminisce about memorable endings, some fans have been left worried by Toei’s post, as they speculate that Dragon Ball Super might not be coming back for a new season.

The post from Toei on X day in 2018 suggested that the final episode of Dragon Ball Super had aired, which left many fans questioning whether this marked the end of Dragon Ball Super forever. The post didn’t specify if it was just the season finale or the series finale, leading to speculation among fans about the future of the show.

Absolutely, Toei Animation continues to breathe life into the popular series “Dragon Ball” with fresh projects such as “Daima” being a recent example. Additionally, there’s a possibility they might produce more independent films about unexplored stories like “Broly>”. Nevertheless, it remains uncertain when or if Toei Animation will animate the remaining storylines of “Dragon Ball Super”.

The Future Of Dragon Ball Super Anime Series Is Uncertain

Things Won’t Get Better Until The Disagreement Over The Franchise’s Rights Is Settled

It’s not surprising that fans long for the return of “Dragon Ball Super” on their screens, accompanied by the original content such as “Daima”. They yearn to delve into what aligns with the manga series. However, a disagreement between Shueisha and Iyoku over the rights to “Dragon Ball” manga has caused quite a stir. Sadly, the fate of “Dragon Ball Super” remains uncertain, as we await resolution of this dispute between the two parties.

Akio Iyoku, a former editor-in-chief at Shueisha who was close friends with Toriyama, parted ways with the company in 2023 due to some disagreements. He then established his own business, Capsule Corporation Tokyo, and was granted permission by Toriyama to manage Dragon Ball projects. However, this move didn’t sit well with Shueisha, as they believe they still own the rights to the Dragon Ball intellectual property (IP). Matters escalated further following Toriyama’s passing, and it remains uncertain who will be entrusted with overseeing future Dragon Ball projects.

Toei owns the rights to the Dragon Ball animation projects, but they can’t move forward with adapting Super until Shueisha gives them permission. There are two possible scenarios going forward. First, Toei might receive approval to continue working only on the original Dragon Ball series following Daima under Akio Iyoku, but in this case, these stories would not be considered part of Super’s canon. The second option is that Toei could get authorization to work on Super content, but this can only happen once the legal dispute between Shueisha and Iyoku is resolved.
