As a long-time fan of DC comics and animation, I couldn’t contain my excitement when I heard about the confirmation of Harley Quinn Season 5! Ever since its debut in 2019, this adult animated series has been a breath of fresh air, offering a unique take on one of my favorite characters, Harley Quinn.

The DC universe is currently undergoing a significant transformation as James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DCU marks the beginning of a fresh chapter for the comic brand. However, some of the studio’s existing projects are still ongoing, with the next release being season 5 of Harley Quinn.

In 2019, the adult animated series “Harley Quinn” made a grand entrance and quickly gained popularity. This show presents an innovative perspective on the tale of Harley Quinn (whose voice is provided by Kaley Cuoco), who, after splitting with the Joker, aspires to become one of Gotham’s most formidable supervillains. Her team includes notable DC characters such as Poison Ivy (portrayed by Lake Bell), Clayface (Alan Tudyk), and King Shark (Ron Funches). Across its four seasons, “Harley Quinn” has garnered praise, with Rotten Tomatoes scores ranging from 89% to a perfect 100%.

Harley Quinn Season 5 Date Confirmed

DC Studios is presently rebooting the DC Universe by introducing Creature Commandos. Conversely, the next series to emerge from the studio will not be connected to the new DCU’s ongoing storyline. The release date for Harley Quinn’s fifth season has been officially confirmed and it is set to premiere on Max on January 16, 2025. Alongside this announcement, the first trailer for Harley Quinn Season 5 was unveiled on YouTube.

In the upcoming season, Harley and Ivy will journey to a new place – the picturesque city known as Metropolis, or more famously, Superman’s territory. Here they aim for a fresh beginning. The trailer suggests storylines such as Lena Luthor designating Ivy as the leader of Metropolis’ green project, the emergence of King Shark’s offspring, and a nefarious scheme by the cunning villain Brainiac (voiced by Stephen Fry), one of Superman’s arch-nemeses. Given that Harley managed to harmonize her good and bad selves in season 4, it seems that season 5 will challenge this equilibrium, with Harley and Ivy being entrusted with the task of saving Metropolis.

In addition to Harley Quinn, other significant DC characters featured in Season 5 include Superman and Lois Lane, as well as recurring villains Bane and Lex Luthor from previous seasons. Moreover, a baddie from the 2003 Teen Titans animated series, Red X, is making a comeback – this character was previously Robin’s secret identity in that show. However, since Nightwing (Dick Grayson) is revived at the end of Season 5 in Harley Quinn, there’s an intriguing speculation that Red X might be hiding the identity of Nightwing instead.

What is The Future of Harley Quinn At DC After Season 5?

There’s some uncertainty about whether the fifth season of Harley Quinn could be its finale. Despite DC’s apparent investment in the Harley Quinn universe, as evidenced by the upcoming spin-off series Kite Man: Hell Yeah!, debuting in 2024. This new show focuses on the escapades of Kite Man, who was once betrothed to Poison Ivy but got dumped, and his budding relationship with Golden Glider. The series garnered a strong response, receiving a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, similar to its parent series. However, a follow-up has yet to be announced.

Harley Quinn Season 5 will be released on Max on January 16, 2025.
