Summary
- The Court of Owls – deadly assassins led by a mysterious group that has controlled Gotham City for centuries.
- The Injustice League – ever-changing roster of powerful villains opposing the Justice League.
- The Dark Knights – evil Batmen from the dark multiverse serving the twisted Bat-God, Batbatos.
In the expansive DC Universe, there are numerous superhero squads, ranging from the well-known Justice League to lesser-known assemblies such as the Birds of Prey. Given the multitude of heroic teams, it’s no surprise that their adversaries have formed teams as well. On several instances, these united groups of villains have outmatched our beloved heroes.
Despite the fact that certain groups function like ruthless criminal organizations within the DC Universe, others are made up of individuals with distinct skill sets, working together for a common purpose. Let’s examine ten of the most formidable ‘evil‘ teams.
10. Court Of Owls
Gotham’s Evil Rulers
Among the listed groups, the Court of Owls might be the most clandestine. For centuries, they’ve wielded power over Gotham City unbeknownst to most, even managing to elude Batman. It wasn’t until they targeted Bruce Wayne for assassination that their existence was brought to light. The Court of Owls had been camouflaged in plain sight, with many nursery rhymes and old stories leading people to think they were merely a myth.
The primary agents of the Court of Owls are known as the Talons, highly-skilled assassins who carry out the Court’s commands without question. Since the 17th century, these Talons have been implicated in numerous killings to preserve the Court’s grip on Gotham City. While Batman often manages to defeat them, they are formidable opponents, and their combat prowess, coupled with the Court’s political and economic power, make them a significant threat.
9. The Injustice League
The Justice Leagues Classic Villains Come Together
Regardless of who’s involved from one confrontation to another, the Injustice League regularly unites to challenge the Justice League head-on. Typically, their ranks include characters such as Lex Luthor, Joker, Cheetah, Black Adam, and others with formidable powers and twisted intentions. On numerous occasions, this group has displayed a formidable resistance.
The strength of the Injustice League lies in its adaptable lineup of antagonists. For instance, in the Injustice League Unlimited, a vast number of around 50 members are part of it simultaneously, featuring characters such as Deathstroke, Gorilla Grodd, Black Manta, Toyman, and others.
8. The Legion of Doom
The Injustice League, But Better
The Legion of Doom bears a resemblance to the Injustice League, as both groups consist of united villains. However, while they share some members with the Injustice League, the Legion of Doom is notably more structured and boasts its own operational headquarters.
Over time, some formidable adversaries have become part of the Legion of Doom, with Brainiac, Vandal Savage, Sinestro, and Lex Luthor being among the most notable. Each poses a significant threat individually. One of their most effective strikes against the Justice League occurred when they managed to obtain Batman’s emergency plans. Utilizing these strategies, they were able to overpower the main members of the Justice League.
7. The Female Furies
Darkseids Elite Task Force
A band of potent combatants, known as The Female Furies, carry out Darkseid’s decrees throughout the cosmos. Mentored and molded by Granny Goodness, these warriors stand among the most formidable fighters in all DC Comics. From their tender years, they are drilled and molded to follow orders without hesitation.
The members of the Female Furies possess extraordinary powers as New Gods, making them formidable beings prior to their training. In numerous encounters, they’ve faced off against the Justice League, even managing to overpower heroes such as Superman and Wonder Woman in certain conflicts.
6. The Secrete Society of Super Villains
A Discreet Group Of Villains That Plot In The Background
Over time, the enigmatic organization known as The Secret Society of Super Villains has seen numerous accounts of their origins. Essentially, this team comprises villainous entities hailing from various galaxies and even the multiverse, often clashing with groups like the Justice League and other superhero collectives. Regardless of whether they are directed by Darkseid, the Outsider, or Alexander Luthor Jr., on several occasions they have come close to permanently vanquishing the Justice League.
It’s clear that this formidable group, with its impressive members, possesses immense power. Time and again, they have clashed with the Justice League and emerged victorious. Notably, their origins trace back to the influential figure of Darkseid, which is a significant testament to their strength.
5. The Crime Syndicate of America
Earth-3’s Evil Justice League
In a twisted, alternate reality known as Earth-3, which mirrors our own universe, Earth Prime, there exists an evil version of the Justice League called the Crime Syndicate of America. Members such as Ultraman (Superman’s counterpart), Owlman (a wicked Batman equivalent), Superwoman (Wonder Woman’s dark doppelganger), and Power Ring (Green Lantern’s malevolent version) make up this formidable team. On numerous occasions, they have outmatched the Justice League in battle.
On their planet, a ruthless organization known as the Crime Empire holds sway with little regard for the well-being of humans. While they claim to be safeguarding humanity, their true intentions are far more sinister – they revel in causing harm and destruction among people and places on Earth. Having depleted their own world’s resources, this malevolent group now seeks to extend their dominion across the entire Multiverse.
4. The Regime
The Justice League That Kills
Superman established The Regime following the Joker’s deceit that led him to believe he had killed his wife Lois Lane and their unborn child, and caused devastation in Metropolis. Initially aimed at combating crime more effectively, Superman chose lethal methods against criminals like the Joker. However, The Regime soon transformed into a harsher entity, becoming increasingly oppressive as they sought to exert control over ordinary citizens.
A diverse array of characters, both heroic and villainous, aligned themselves with the Regime, including Wonder Woman, Flash, Cyborg, Black Lightning, Lobo, Doomsday, Black Adam, among others. Initially, only a handful of heroes, such as Batman and Green Arrow, stood against the Regime from the outset. The Regime was known for its harshness.
3. The Legion of Super-Villains
The Villains Of The Future
In the 30th century, the Legion of Evil, a counterpart to the Legion of Heroes – the future equivalent of the Justice League – are their adversaries. The Legion aims to sow disorder across the entire galaxy, and with heavyweights like Superboy-Prime in their ranks, they’ve come close to achieving chaos on numerous instances.
One significant accomplishment they made involved the Legion of Super-Heroes having to enlist two more Legions from alternate dimensions, revive Bart Allen, Connor Kent, and even call upon Superman to aid them in overpowering Superboy-Prime’s League of Villainous Super-Beings.
2. Black Lantern Corps
The Most Evil Lantern Corp
The entities are motivated by death, and the Black Lantern Rings opt to resurrect deceased heroes and adversaries, who then serve under the command of the Death’s Radiance, Nekron. Once revived, the bearer of the ring loses all autonomy and carries out Nekron’s bidding.
Essentially, the Black Lanent Corps has the power to revive any being who has perished across the universe, as demonstrated by numerous Green Lanterns, evil characters like Reverse Flash and Anti-Monitor, along with heroes such as Superman, Superboy, Kid Flash, Martian Manhunter, and even Spectre, all of whom have been brought back to life.
1. The Dark Knights
The Most Evil And Powerful Versions Of Batman From Across The Multiverse
I belong to a group known as the Dark Knights, a band of Batmans originating from the ominous Dark Multiverse. Orchestrated by the notorious Batman Who Laughs, we find ourselves on the precipice of our world’s collapse. Driven by necessity, we are prepared to take whatever actions required to ensure the survival of our realms.
The Madman who Grins (Batman), The Submerged (Aquaman), The Dawnbringer (Green Lantern), The Cruel One (Wonder Woman), The Destroyer (Superman), The Mechanized Slayer (Cyborg), and The Rapid Death (The Flash). This team, with the combined abilities of these superheroes and the wicked intellect of an evil Batman, is undeniably the most formidable evil force in the DC universe.
