2024’s edition of Dungeons & Dragons has rolled out the first round of corrections in its core rulebooks, addressing wording issues and fine-tuning the balance for various spells and creatures. These modifications will apply to all future printings of the Player’s Handbook, Dungeon Master’s Guide, and Monster Manual, while digital platforms like D&D Beyond have already incorporated these changes.
On February 18, the tenth anniversary update for the fifth edition of Dungeons & Dragons was completed with the publication of the “2025 Monster Manual”. This book, along with the “2024 Playerâs Handbook” and “Dungeon Masterâs Guide”, comprise the essential rulebooks for the ongoing refresh of 5th Edition D&D.
As an ardent fan, I’m thrilled to share that the long-awaited updates for our beloved “Dungeons & Dragons” books have finally dropped! It’s like getting a game update or patch, but for our textbooks instead. The Playerâs Handbook, in particular, has undergone quite a transformation, with tweaks here and there to enhance clarity on several feats and the Rules Glossary.
In Appendix B, the Creature Statblocks have been swapped out for their fresh counterparts from the Monster Manual. As for the new Player’s Handbook, several spells have seen updates â there are nerfs to certain Conjure spells and a fix for the temporary hit point exploit with Polymorph spells.
The Dungeon Masterâs Guide didn’t receive as many changes, with just a minor tweak to chasing rules and a typo correction on the Random Treasure Hoard table. But hey, even small updates can make a big difference!
The revised edition of the “Dungeons & Dragons Monster Manual” introduces several modifications. Instead of general terminology, let me break it down:
1. Stat blocks: These are sets of numbers and descriptions that define a creature’s abilities, characteristics, and powers in combat.
2. Wording and clarity adjustments: This means the text has been made clearer and easier to understand.
3. Spellcasting features expanded: Now, each spell can be used individually each day by certain creatures.
4. Statistics raised or lowered: Some creatures’ stats have been increased, while others have been decreased.
5. Ancient White Dragons, Balors, and Arcanaloths: These are examples of creatures that have experienced changes in their attributes. Specifically, Ancient White Dragons now have higher Charisma scores, Balors have fewer Hit Points, and Arcanaloths have a higher Armor Class (AC).
6. Various other adjustments: There are also numerous additional modifications made throughout the manual.
All these modifications are now incorporated into digital platforms such as D&D Beyond, and they will appear in the new Dungeons & Dragons SRD 5.2 upon its release on April 22. These updates have likewise been integrated into recent print versions of the core rulebooks, and all future editions will include them too.
If any corrections (errata) are necessary in the future, they will be implemented similarly, with updates to the SRD 5.2 taking place for each one. Additionally, players can anticipate the return of the Sage Advice Compendium â a compilation of answers to frequently asked questions about rule interactions, contributed by the community â soon.
Dungeons and Dragons 2024 Core Rulebook Errata 1
Today, we’re releasing updates on D&D Beyond. These updates include corrections (errata) for the 2024 core rules, which will not only refresh the current rules but also prepare them for the upcoming release of the SRD version 5.2.
What is Errata?
Occasionally, we make adjustments to our rulebooks and share them as “errata” on D&D Beyond. These errata are crucial for playing the latest edition of the game or keeping your content consistent with the current version of the rules.
Playerâs Handbook (2024)
This revision makes some adjustments and provides greater clarity in the 2024 edition of the Player’s Handbook. These updates are reflected in current printings of the book. You can find these alterations on D&D Beyond, as well as by downloading a PDF version of the book.
- Chapter 4: Character Origins
- Goliath Traits (p. 192) In the Powerful Build trait, âYou have Advantage on any saving throwâ is now âYou have Advantage on any ability checkâ.
- Chapter 5: Feats
- Grappler (p. 204) In the Fast Wrestler benefit, âYour Speed isnât halved when you moveâ is now âYou donât have to spend extra movement to moveâ.
- Poisoner (p. 206) In the Brew Poison benefitâs fourth sentence, âuntil you hit with the poisoned itemâ is now âuntil you deal damage with the poisoned itemâ.
- Telekinetic (p. 208) In the Minor Telekinesis benefitâs second sentence, âits range increases by 30 feetâ is now âits range and the distance it can be away from you both increase by 30 feetâ.
- Chapter 6: Equipment
- Armor Table (p. 219) In the subheading for the Shield category, âShieldâ is now âShield (Utilize Action to Don or Doff)â.
- Chapter 7: Spells
- Animal Shapes (p. 240) The spellâs last paragraph has been replaced with the following: The target gains a number of Temporary Hit Points equal to the Hit Points of the first form into which it shape-shifts. These Temporary Hit Points vanish if any remain when the spell ends. The transformation lasts for the duration or until the target ends it as a Bonus Action. When you cast the spell, you gain a number of Temporary Hit Points equal to the Hit Points of the first form into which you shape-shift. These Temporary Hit Points vanish if any remain when the spell ends.
- Conjure Elemental (p. 254) In the âUsing a Higher-Level Spell Slotâ subsection, â2d8â is now â1d8.â
- Conjure Fey (p. 255) In the âUsing a Higher-Level Spell Slotâ subsection, â2d12â is now â1d12.â
- Conjure Minor Elementals (p. 254) In the âUsing a Higher-Level Spell Slotâ subsection, â2d8â is now â1d8.â
- Conjure Woodland Beings (p. 255) In the âUsing a Higher-Level Spell Slotâ subsection, âlevel above 5â is now âlevel above 4â.
- Giant Insect (p. 279) In the HP entry, â10 for each spell levelâ is now â10 for each spell level above 4â.
- Polymorph (p. 306) In the second paragraph of the spellâs description, the following sentence has been added after the first: âThese Temporary Hit Points vanish if any remain when the spell ends.â
- Shapechange (p. 315) The second paragraph of the spellâs description has been replaced with the following:
- True Polymorph (p. 335) In the second paragraph of the âCreature into Creatureâ subsection, the second sentence has been replaced with âThese Temporary Hit Points vanish if any remain when the spell ends.â
- Appendix B: Creature Stat Blocks
- All Stat Blocks (pp. 346â359) All stat blocks in appendix B have been replaced with the Monster Manual (2025) versions.
- Appendix C: Rules Glossary
- Grappling (p. 367) In the âGrapplingâ entry, the heading âEscaping a Grappleâ is now âEnding a Grappleâ. Also, the following sentence has been added to the end of that subsection: âIn addition, the grappler can release the target at any time (no action required).â
- Hide [Action] (p. 368) In the second paragraph, âyou have the Invisible conditionâ is now âyou have the Invisible condition while hiddenâ. In the third paragraph, âThe condition ends on youâ is now âYou stop being hiddenâ.
Dungeon Masterâs Guide (2024)
In the latest edition of the Dungeon Master’s Guide (2024), some text has been revised for accuracy and clarity. These amendments are now available in recently published versions of the book. You can find these updates on D&D Beyond, as well as by downloading a PDF version of the guide.
- Chapter 3: DMâs Toolbox
- Running the Chase (p. 52). Under âDashing,â the last sentence has been replaced with the following: âA participant drops out of the chase if it has 5 Exhaustion levels. A creature can remove the Exhaustion levels it gained during the chase by finishing a Short or Long Rest.â
- Chapter 4: Creating Adventures
- Treasure Hoards (p. 121). In the third row of the Random Treasure Hoard table, â8d8 Ă 10,000â is now â8d8 Ă 1,000â.
Monster Manual (2025)
In simpler terms, this update makes corrections and provides more clarity for certain parts of the “Monster Manual 2025”. These improvements are now present in newer editions of the book. You can find these updates on D&D Beyond as well as in a downloadable PDF version of the manual.
