Dead by Daylight: Best Maps for The Dark Lord Killer

Dead by Daylight: Best Maps for The Dark Lord Killer

Key Takeaways

  • The Dark Lord in Dead by Daylight has unique powers, transforming into a wolf or bat, and excels in areas like Lampkin Lane.
  • Haddonfield is another great map for The Dark Lord, with optimal strategies using bat form and wolf form for efficient chases.
  • The Red Forest and Raccoon City Police Station provide advantages for The Dark Lord, utilizing bat form teleportation and Pillars of Flame effectively.

As a long-time Dead by Daylight player with a soft spot for ranged Killers, I must say that The Dark Lord is a delight to play in certain maps. His Pillars of Flame are like a vampiric magic trick, catching unsuspecting Survivors off guard and disrupting their plans.

Ever since August 2024, the Dark Lord has been a widely preferred character for killing roles within “Dead By Daylight”. Originating from “Castlevania”, this enigmatic figure boasts an intriguing history and extraordinary abilities that truly shine when utilized across various realms and maps, making it effortless for him to secure victories in the game.

The Powerful Dark Entity assumes the shapes of a wolf and a bat, while also possessing the ability to hurl pillars of fire from afar. This being, known as Dracula, excels most on maps that allow for surprise attacks against Survivors during vault attempts or when they are unaware in bat form.

5 Lampkin Lane

Halloween’s Haddonfield is Filled With Open Spaces and Easy-to-Find Hiding Spots

  • Pros: Increased audio ability in bat form means there are few safe hiding spots. It is easy to teleport to upstairs vaults in bat form. The large open space in the street is great for pouncing as a wolf.
  • Cons: Large buildings can slow chases if Survivors loop them well. Pillar of Flame power doesn’t work through any building’s walls.

Originally, Haddonfield was marked by a broad street filled with parked cars and homes on both sides. For survivors looking to loop effectively, strategic spots often lie near or around the larger houses. Yet, beware, if the Dark Lord can predict your movements, his bat form might swiftly transition to the next hiding place, teleporting from vault to vault.

In the central, expansive part of the map, the wolf-like aspect becomes crucial. It’s here where prolonged leaps and strategic bites prove advantageous. This Killer’s strength lies in anticipating Survivor actions and skillfully employing each unique ability. At Haddonfield, this translates to blocking quick vault escapes using the Pillar of Flame and executing extended leaps in the spacious, open zones. The wolf form’s instinct aids The Dark Lord in tracking any Survivor attempting to conceal themselves in bushes or lockers during pursuit, as their position is marked by a glowing red heartbeat.

4 The Temple of Purgation

A Red Forest That’s Easy to Disguise Oneself Within

  • Pros: Easy to blend into shadowy areas, especially in wolf or bat form. There are few solid walls around the main buildings, so it becomes easy to close Survivor’s loops.
  • Cons: Red Forest has quite large maps, so it can take time to find and track Survivors.

The original Red Forest charts were inhabited by both The Huntress and The Plague. Playing as The Dark Lord on any Red Forest map is an enjoyable experience, since the shaded, wooded region allows for stealthy maneuvers in both bat and wolf guises. Despite being rather expansive, a cunning player of The Dark Lord will avoid lengthy pursuits once a Survivor is found by swiftly transitioning into wolf form to corner their target.

The maps feature a single substantial structure enclosed by miniature stone barriers intended for circling, and larger wooden playground structures for traversal. The Pillar of Flame belonging to the Dark Lord serves excellently for catching Survivors off guard with strategic bursts of fire, thereby completely blocking smaller zones. In the larger wooden playground loops, the wolf transformation offers an advantage in bridging the distance between the Killer and Survivor during long leaps. This shape allows the Killer to easily track the target’s movements due to their innate instinct, making it challenging for any Survivor to deceive the Dark Lord by playing psychological games.

3 Raccoon City Police Station

A Resident Evil Map That Doesn’t Have the Best Looping Structure for Survivors

  • Pros: There aren’t too many strong looping areas for Survivors. Teleportation in bat form can be a strong power here.
  • Cons: It is difficult to successfully perform a long pounce in wolf form due to the short and narrow walkways.

In the game Dead By Daylight, the setting of Raccoon City from Resident Evil has been incorporated, accompanied by a new character known as The Nemesis. This character possesses abilities similar to The Dark Lord’s Pillars of Flame at medium range. Given this, it becomes clear why the maps of Raccoon City are ideal for The Nemesis. The Pillars of Flame work exceptionally well in striking Survivors while they attempt to jump over obstacles or throw pallets.

Even though his wolf shape struggles in narrow, confined spaces on higher levels due to lack of maneuverability, it excels on lower levels with ample room for charging. In bat form, The Dark Lord swiftly navigates the map by teleporting to open windows and surprising Survivors. Any areas where Survivors typically outwit the Killer are shortened by the wolf’s pounce that shatters pallets or the Pillars of Flame.

2 Midwich Elementary School

The Silent Hill Map That Allows For Many Survivor Paths to be Shutdown

  • Pros: Longer corridors can be great for pouncing in wolf form. Many of the loops are easily shut down with his Pillars of Flame ranged power.
  • Cons: Solid walls mean Dracula cannot use Pillars of Flame to surprise Survivors from outside of rooms.

Indoor maps are not every player’s favorite, especially players who enjoy using ranged Killers like Huntress or Hillbilly. For Killers with medium-range powers like Pyramid Head or The Dark Lord, however, these maps can prove to be very strong. The Silent Hill map has a lot of short loops perfect for The Dark Lord to shoot his Pillars of Flame through and cut off unsuspecting Survivors.

In the lengthy hallways, The Dark Lord can swiftly catch up with a fleeing Survivor as his wolf form moves at great speed. On the other hand, within each classroom, it’s the Vampiric form that holds dominance. Although he can’t hurl flaming pillars through solid walls from the hallways, inside the classrooms, Survivors will find it challenging to dodge the attacks. Moreover, due to the proximity of the Midwich exit gates on the lower level, the last Survivor may not be able to slip away without taking any damage.

1 Treatment Theater

Léry’s Memorial Institute Benefits From Bat Form

  • Pros: Lots of vaults to teleport to in bat form. Pillars of flame shut down any looping around pallets.
  • Cons: Exit gates are very far apart, so it can be hard to track the final Survivor.

In the gaming world, I stumbled upon Lery’s Memorial Institute for the first time alongside The Doctor. This sprawling indoor labyrinth of hospital rooms is quite a challenge, but it’s got a secret that makes it navigable – plenty of window vents. As The Dark Lord, these vents are my shortcuts, letting me swoop down and surprise Survivors who are fixing a generator or regrouping after rescuing each other from hooks. Teleportation to these vents? Pure evil genius!

In every hospital room within a facility, Flame Pillars serve an effective purpose in halting the repetitive movement of Survivors around pallets. These pillars don’t pass through solid walls but can penetrate low walls, pallets, and window openings. However, the main disadvantage lies in the distance between the exit gates, which can make it challenging to achieve victory during the end game. The only strategy to overcome this is by attempting to teleport using bat form and then swiftly transform into wolf or vampire form for an attack. Many Dark Lord players experience a high success rate on this map when they become proficient at rapid and skillful shape-shifting between forms.
