Dead by Daylight Devs Dream of Adding Stephen King and M3GAN to the Game!

Summary

  • Dead by Daylight devs want to add horror icons like Stephen King and M3GAN to the game, enhancing the diverse character roster.
  • Due to King’s aversion to video games in general, the director noted that the writer’s involvement in the survival horror was “probably never going to happen.”
  • A recent February update fixed bugs, renewed The Nightmare, and teased the return of 2v8 mode, promising an exciting year of gameplay.

The creators of the game “Dead by Daylight,” published by Behaviour Interactive, have mentioned several horror legends they’d like to incorporate as characters within the game. These include the 2022 doll M3GAN and renowned horror author Stephen King, who is famous for his works such as “It” and “The Shining.” The game has recently introduced a new character, The Houndmaster Killer, marking the first-ever Killer with an AI-controlled companion, along with Survivor Taurie Cain, as part of the Doomed Course chapter.

In 2016, the innovative multiplayer survival horror game, known as “Dead by Daylight,” was initially released by a Canadian developer. In this game, a single player takes on the role of a Killer, while four others become Survivors. The objective for the Killer is to sacrifice each Survivor to an entity. Now, “Dead by Daylight” has introduced a new crossover with “Resident Evil,” which is exciting news for horror enthusiasts and movie buffs eagerly waiting for the upcoming reboot of the film series, reportedly overseen by director Zach Cregger, who is also known for his work on “Barbarian.

During an interview with TheGamer, Mathieu Côté (game director and head of partnerships) was asked which horror franchise he’d like to collaborate with in the future. Surprisingly, Côté expressed a desire to have Stephen King himself as a character in their game because King has written himself into several of his stories as a character. Despite King’s dislike for video games, Côté acknowledged that it was unlikely he would ever be involved in a survival horror game. Furthermore, Côté shared that he and creative director Dave Richards often discussed Stephen King’s works.

Dead by Daylight Devs Want Stephen King and M3GAN Added to the Game

Game designer Jean Escalante mentioned to TheGamer another character he’d like to see added to the game, which is a fresh face in the horror genre. “I may seem odd saying this since I haven’t seen the movie, but I can’t help but wish for M3GAN in DbD,” Escalante shared, alluding to the doll introduced in Gerard Johnstone’s sci-fi horror film. Akela Cooper and James Wan, known for their work on the Conjuring series, created this character, with the story revolving around an intelligent doll that develops self-awareness and becomes malicious. If added, M3GAN would join another well-known doll in the game, as Chucky received a new Charred skin last year to make his killer appearance even more threatening in Dead by Daylight.

In a delightful surprise to its fans, Dead by Daylight rolled out an update last month, jam-packed with bug fixes and exciting new features to keep the gaming experience fresh in the new year. This update refreshed The Nightmare character, introduced Black Box visual effects, and gave a sneak peek at the anticipated return of the 2v8 mode with brand-new characters and maps. The bug fixes addressed game imbalances, unfair advantages, and smoothed out transitions between gameplay, while also including a specific adjustment to The Nightmare’s playstyle regarding its VFX when teleporting.
