Dead By Daylight is Checking a Big Item Off Players' Wish Lists

As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent in the eerie landscapes of Dead by Daylight, I can confidently say that the return of the 2v8 mode has sent a thrill down my spine. This chaotic, adrenaline-fueled twist on the standard gameplay has always been a fan favorite, and I’m overjoyed to see it make a comeback, even if only for a limited time.

The popular multiplayer horror survival game, Dead by Daylight, has released a significant update, reintroducing a beloved feature: the 2v8 mode, where two killers collaborate to defeat eight players in an intensified version of regular gameplay. This mode was initially presented in July 2024 on a temporary basis, and its return was uncertain. However, it’s great news that it’s back – albeit for a limited time again, this time around mid-November. Whether 2v8 Mode will eventually become a permanent feature in Dead by Daylight remains to be seen. For now, players can look forward to engaging in high-intensity 10-player conflicts once more.

Starting on November 12, 2024, Dead by Daylight introduced its 2v8 mode as a limited-time feature, which will continue until November 26, 2024. Although this isn’t the initial limited-time mode within Dead by Daylight (with Lights Out and My Little Oni preceding it), it has been the most highly anticipated and well-received one, generating a lot of positive feedback from players and queries about its potential return to the game.

Dead by Daylight’s New 2v8 Mode Expands Killer Options Dramatically

Initially introduced in July, the 2v8 mode of “Dead by Daylight” allowed players to pick from among four distinct survivor roles: Guide (for repairing generators), Medic (for healing fellow survivors), Escapist (for swift movement and speed boosts for others), and Scout (for stealthy movement and evasion of killers. Previously, these roles were replaced by the Survivor Perk system, but they’ve returned with a twist – now, even killers can opt for specific classes.

As a seasoned gamer, I can tell you that similar to survivors in the game of “Dead by Daylight,” killers also have the freedom to pick from four unique classes. These new roles don’t replace the existing powers of the killers but rather enhance their abilities even further. The four killer classes are:

  • Shadow – Gains Undetectable in specific circumstances and perceives survivors’ auras for longer. Pairs well with already-mobile killers like the Nurse, but also provides stealth options for bulkier killers like the Hillbilly or Deathslinger.
  • Brute – Breaks objects more quickly and can see survivor auras from far away after damaging generators. Adds bulk to fragile killers like the Nurse or Spirit.
  • Enforcer – Moves faster while chasing injured survivors. Teammates can give survivors an Enforcer’s Mark, which grants the Enforcer additional abilities. An all-around class that pairs well with any killer.
  • Fearmonger – Grants Haste to a teammate and perceives survivor auras after a generator is completed. Allows a fast killer like the Huntress to pair up with a slower partner like the Trapper and work as an effective team.

Furthermore, three additional characters – the Spirit, the Blight, and the Deathslinger – were added to the 2v8 game mode, bringing the total number of available killers to eight. These join the original five killers from the initial version of the mode: Wraith, Trapper, Hillbilly, Nurse, and Huntress. Additionally, more maps and realms are now accessible for battles in 2v8 matches.

The New 2v8 Mode Did Not Fix One Key Player Complaint

Although most players are happy about the comeback of the 2v8 Dead by Daylight mode, some express disappointment because one significant problem remains unaddressed: prolonged wait times in queues. When the 2v8 mode was initially launched, players of Dead by Daylight often encountered extended queue periods as the game struggled to gather eight survivors for a lobby or efficiently match two killers.

In an official update on their blog, Behaviour Interactive admitted to experiencing problems with the 2v8 mode and stated that they are actively working on a solution, though it may not have been completely resolved yet. It’s likely that gamers may need to endure lengthy wait times for the re-introduction of this mode, similar to what happened during its initial launch. Fingers crossed that when 2v8 mode comes back – perhaps permanently – this annoying issue will be addressed and improved.
