Dead By Daylight’s Castlevania Crossover Should Start a Chain Reaction

Dead By Daylight's Castlevania Crossover Should Start a Chain Reaction

Key Takeaways

  • Dead by Daylight offers extensive complexity with 43 Survivors and 36 Killers, and that roster will soon grow even larger.
  • An exciting licensed crossover will soon take place that introduces characters like Trevor Belmont and Dracula from Castlevania.
  • Dead by Daylight’s modern 3D makeover of Trevor and Dracula will hopefully pave the way for a new 3D Castlevania game, with their new designs serving as a starting point for a potential developer to build off of.

As a longtime fan of both horror games and the iconic Castlevania series, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming collaboration between Dead by Daylight and Castlevania! With the introduction of Trevor Belmont and Dracula to the fray, it feels like we’re on the brink of a new era for the venerable vampire hunter saga.

Back when I first dived into the chilling world of “Dead by Daylight”, it immediately caught my attention with its gripping concept. While asymmetrical multiplayer games had been tried before, the 1 vs 4 Killer versus Survivors setup in this game felt like it was tailor-made for the horror genre. It delivered a thrilling yet accessible experience that still left plenty of space for intricate mechanics and strategies to unfold as time went on. Fast forward eight years, and “Dead by Daylight” is richer than ever, offering a mind-boggling complexity with 43 distinct Survivors and 36 terrifying Killers, each bringing their own unique Perks and abilities to the table, shaping the gameplay in profound ways.

While Dead by Daylight has a rich cast of its own original Killers and Survivors, some of the most thrilling are those borrowed from other horror series. From Alien to Child’s Play, and even games like Alan Wake, Dead by Daylight boasts an impressive collection of licensed characters. These collaborations don’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. On August 27, Castlevania’s Trevor Belmont and Dracula will take center stage in the release of Dead by Daylight’s 33rd Chapter, and this could potentially stir new life into the previously quiet Konami franchise.

Dead by Daylight’s Castlevania Collaboration Should Lead to a New Game

Dead by Daylight’s Castlevania Crossover Gives Trevor and Dracula a Modern Redesign

It has been about ten years since a new Castlevania game was released, which means it’s also been ten years since Dracula and Trevor Belmont received updated 3D character designs. Although there have been many appearances of Castlevania characters in games like Dead Cells and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, these appearances usually featured 2D versions of characters such as Alucard and Simon Belmont. However, Dead by Daylight is the first game in a while to give Dracula and Trevor fully-fledged, modern 3D transformations.

In the video game Castlevania: Curse of Darkness for PS2 in 2005, Trevor Belmont’s character in Dead by Daylight is portrayed wearing a white shirt, a brown leather waistcoat, leather boots, and multiple belts and buckles. Conversely, Dracula from Dead by Daylight takes inspiration from Castlevania’s Symphony of the Night, which was released in 1997, reflecting in his outfit design.

Despite not having the most stunning graphics, the character models for Trevor and Dracula in “Dead by Daylight” are spot-on for the game’s horror theme. Moreover, these “Dead by Daylight: Castlevania” models serve as a solid foundation for any future 3D “Castlevania” endeavors, which I hope Konami is considering for development.

A New 3D Castlevania Game Should Be on The Cards

For a decade, fans have been asking Konami for a new Castlevania game. While many fans would like Castlevania‘s big comeback to be in the form of a 2D side-scroller in a similar vein to classics like Symphony of the Night and Aria of Sorrow, it would still be great to see a brand new 3D Castlevania game hit the market. Though the early N64 Castlevania games are arguably some of the series’ worst entries, the Lords of Shadow duology, Lament of Innocence, and the aforementioned Curse of Darkness all proved that a 3D Castlevania game could work.

Instead of simply updating the character models in a fresh 3D Castlevania game with designs reminiscent of Dead by Daylight, it requires much more than that to truly deliver the high-end AAA experience that devoted fans have long anticipated. With thoughtful design and dedicated effort, this revival could indeed be the long-awaited triumphant return for the franchise.
