Highlights

  • The addition of non-horror crossovers like Lara Croft and Vecna could pave the way for more diverse collaborations in the future.
  • Potential future non-horror crossovers could include characters like Venom, as long as they fit the game’s darker tone.

As a gamer with a deep love for Dead by Daylight and a keen eye for intriguing collaborations, I’m thrilled to see the game branch out from its horror roots with the addition of non-horror crossovers like Vecna and Lara Croft. These characters may not be traditional horror icons, but they bring unique elements that can enhance the Dead by Daylight experience.

Five months following its debut, the hugely popular asymmetrical horror game, Dead by Daylight, experienced its inaugural crossover event. This marked the second chapter in the game’s rich history, with iconic character Michael Myers from Halloween joining the title as its first collaborative addition. Instead of playing it safe, Dead by Daylight has consistently pushed boundaries, introducing entire Chapters replete with new Survivors, Killers, and maps that seamlessly blend with the game’s chilling atmosphere.

In recent developments, ” Dead by Daylight” appears to be embarking on a fresh chapter with its collaboration ventures. The latest collaborations between ” Dead by Daylight” and “Dungeons and Dragons” (Vecna) and “Tomb Raider” (Lara Croft), mark a slight shift from the usual collaboration style of this horror game, potentially signaling an influx of new types of crossovers for “Dead by Daylight.”

Dead by Daylight Could Dip Its Toes Into Non-Horror Crossovers

Dead by Daylight’s Vecna and Lara Croft Could Pave the Way for Non-Horror Crossovers

In a tabletop role-playing game such as Dungeons and Dragons, the Dungeon Master (DM) holds extensive creative control over how they bring specific monsters or established characters to life. For instance, in the case of the legendary D&D antagonist Vecna, who is known for his Lich powers that enable him to transcend death and summon various macabre magical perils, the DM may opt to incorporate this figure into a more horror-infused campaign. However, it’s essential to note that Dungeons and Dragons isn’t primarily recognized as a horror genre, so Vecna making an appearance in Dead by Daylight signifies a noticeable departure from the game’s usual style.

Prior to Vecna’s introduction into “Dead by Daylight” in June, the game exclusively featured crossovers from horror sources such as films like “Saw” and “Hellraiser,” television shows including “Stranger Things,” and other horror games such as “Resident Evil,” “Silent Hill,” and most recently, “Alan Wake.” However, Vecna isn’t the only non-horror entity to have joined the game in recent times.

Beginning July 16, 2024, Lara Croft from “Tomb Raider,” currently accessible in the public test build, will be formally introduced into “Dead by Daylight” as a Survivor. Although her likeness in this game shares similarities with her portrayal in the “Tomb Raider” Survivor trilogy, which incorporates elements of psychological horror, she is not synonymous with horror icons. Consequently, “Tomb Raider,” which is not primarily a horror genre, may have paved the way for additional non-horror collaborations within “Dead by Daylight.” There’s no dearth of concepts for forthcoming crossovers.

Non-Horror Crossovers That Should Come to Dead by Daylight

As a gamer, I can suggest that while Vecna and Lara Croft have set the precedent for non-horror collaborations in Dead by Daylight, any future crossovers should align with the game’s ominous atmosphere and design. In my opinion, Batman could be an intriguing addition to the game. While it may be challenging to create a balanced Survivor character for Batman, Joker would make an excellent Killer, as demonstrated by Mortal Kombat 11’s successful dark depiction of the character. On the Marvel side, Venom would also be an intriguing choice for a potential Killer, considering the abundance of R-rated portrayals of this anti-hero/villain in various media.
