A Game That Journeyed Through Multiple Game Studios And A Console Generation
Initially, the development duo of Deep Silver and Yager Development unveiled Dead Island 2 at E3 2014, with an ambition to transport the original first-person zombie survival game by Techland into a fictitious setting inspired by the sunny state of California.
Back in 2015, I was eagerly waiting for the original version of Dead Island 2 to drop on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned, and the development of this anticipated game was temporarily handed over to Sumo Digital.
In 2019, Deep Silver’s internal studio, Dambuster Studios, assumed control over the project. By April 2023, the game they developed was launched on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S platforms.
Despite facing an extended production timeline, numerous studio changes, and even a whole console generation, it’s astounding that Dead Island 2 somehow evolved into a fairly good game that has garnered appreciation from its dedicated fanbase.
