Dead Rising: Best Psychopaths In The Games, Ranked

As I delve deeper into the captivating world of Dead Rising, I find myself increasingly intrigued by the enigmatic characters that populate its narrative. Among these intriguing figures, none have left such a profound impact on me as the trio of Raymond Sullivan, Carlito Keyes, and Isabela Keyes – each embodying a unique facet of the human condition, from the hidden mastermind to the twisted vengeance seeker, and ultimately, the path towards redemption.

The “Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster” has been warmly welcomed, with many expressing delight at revisiting what is widely regarded as the series’ best installment. While Frank West is a beloved character, he’s not the only one who shines in “Dead Rising”.

Over the course of these games, the “Psychopath” adversaries often leave a lasting impression on players due to their unique personalities and visually striking designs. These Psychopaths play diverse roles in the game’s narratives, with some being prominent recurring figures and others providing brief, intriguing interludes. Here are some of the top characters and experiences involving them.

10 Cletus Samson

Gunshop Owner

Dead Rising: Best Psychopaths In The Games, Ranked

  • Games: Dead Rising, Dead Rising: Chop til You Drop
  • Location: Huntin’ Shack
  • Rewards: 20,000 PP, Vendor (Chop til You Drop)

Cletus, from the game Dead Rising, is one of the less mentally stable “psychopaths”. His primary flaw is an excessive level of suspicion. As the proprietor of the Willamette Mall’s gun store, he believes that any survivors would make a beeline for his shop to acquire weapons, and wouldn’t hesitate to murder him in order to do so.

This action causes him to confront not just Frank but also James Ramsey, fatally wounding James first. Following this fight, he flees in terror due to expected reprisal, ultimately meeting his end at the hands of the undead James.

Notably, in the revamped version of the game Chop til You Drop on the Wii, Cletus transforms into a helpful Non-Player Character (NPC) following his conquest. Subsequently, he offers and repairs weapons for the protagonist, Frank.

9 Steven Chapman

Dedicated Manager

Dead Rising: Best Psychopaths In The Games, Ranked
  • Games: Dead Rising, Dead Rising: Chop til You Drop
  • Location: Seon’s Food & Stuff
  • Rewards: 30,000 PP, Weapons Cart

In the initial Dead Rising game, numerous gamers will likely recall Chapman as one of the early psychopath characters they encountered. His design stands out due to its uncanny realism. Essentially, he is a former manager of a convenience store, struggling tirelessly to maintain order amidst the chaos caused by the zombie infestation.

In this scenario, he believes anyone entering the store to get supplies are likely looters and vandals, posing a threat not only to Frank but also many other survivors. Notably, Chapman has modified his own weapons cart, a shopping trolley equipped with blades and a pitchfork. Once defeated, players have the chance to use this cart.

8 Kent Swanson

Rival Photographer

Dead Rising: Best Psychopaths In The Games, Ranked
  • Games: Dead Rising
  • Location: Paradise Plaza
  • Rewards: 30,000 PP, Camera 2 book

At first, Kent comes off as a cordial NPC who encourages Frank West to capture superior photos in a series of competitions. However, over time, his behavior intensifies. When Frank prevents Kent from transforming another survivor into a zombie for the sake of photography, Kent’s envy of Frank’s skills transforms into fury, leading him to attack.

In the game Dead Rising, Kent’s extended tale of intrigue is one of the numerous side missions that can easily be overlooked. At first glance, Kent seems friendly, but he later reveals a completely disturbed personality. Despite being defeated, his obsession with the perfect photo persists. He implores Frank to snap a picture of his demise, suggesting it should be preserved “for his trophy case.

7 Brent “Slappy” Ernst

Mascot Madness

Dead Rising: Best Psychopaths In The Games, Ranked
  • Games: Dead Rising 2, Dead Rising 2: Off The Record
  • Location: Kid’s Choice Clothing
  • Rewards: 20,000 PP, Flamethrower

Brent serves as a store mascot, but he has a heartbreaking backstory. During the time of the zombie outbreak, he was supposed to go on his inaugural date with coworker and fellow mascot, Louise. Regrettably, the zombies reached her before their rendezvous could take place.

In the story, it’s Chuck Greene who is framed as the cause of the outbreak, and this makes Brent believe that he’s responsible for Louise’s death. Consequently, Brent, dressed in his Slappy costume and armed with two flamethrowers, aggressively confronts Chuck while skating around.

As a longtime fan of the Dead Rising series, I can confidently say that one of the most memorable moments for me was the introduction of Slappy in Dead Rising 2. Even though Brent may no longer be around, his quirky sidekick has left an indelible mark on the franchise. In fact, I’ve noticed that Slappy is still referenced several times in Dead Rising 3, which just goes to show how well-loved this character is among fans like myself. It’s always a treat to see familiar faces pop up in new games, and it adds an extra layer of excitement when they’re as endearing as Slappy.

6 Randall Tugman

Randy Randall

Dead Rising: Best Psychopaths In The Games, Ranked
  • Games: Dead Rising 2, Dead Rising 2: Off The Record
  • Location: Swept Away
  • Rewards: 20,000 PP, Pink Chainsaw

In Dead Rising 2, I’ve got to say, Randall is a psychopath design that sticks in my mind. With his unique fetish costume, the eerie pig silhouette, and that massive pink chainsaw he wields, he’s quite the character! And let’s not forget the bizarre setting for our encounter – it really ramps up the weirdness factor!

In the quaint Swept Away wedding chapel, Chuck encounters Randall. He’s got a woman, presumably his bride-to-be, in tow, holding her captive. Accompanying him is his own father. Through their conversation, it appears that Randall’s dad advocated for him to abstain until marriage, which Randall seems to be avoiding by coercing this wedding ceremony with his hostage.

In this distinctive battle between psychopaths, visually and thematically set apart from others, the prize is Randy’s massive, vibrant pink chainsaw. This sets Randy apart as one of the finest and most memorable psychos within the franchise.

5 Amber & Crystal Bailey

Glamour Girls

Dead Rising: Best Psychopaths In The Games, Ranked
  • Games: Dead Rising 2, Dead Rising 2: Off The Record
  • Location: Shoal Nightclub
  • Rewards: Katanas, Story progression

In Dead Rising 2, the Bailey twins aren’t exactly the main villains, but they pose a significant early challenge for Chuck. Meanwhile, in the “Terror is Reality” mode of the game, the reality show hostesses function as TK’s key allies.

The sisters exhibit flirtatious behavior, often tantalizing spectators, competitors, and notably Chuck, with subtle hints and seductive gestures. They also pose a challenging early battle in the game Dead Rising 2, as players must confront both of them simultaneously.

When Chuck overpowers one of the twins during their fight, the surviving twin ends her life, expressing that she cannot go on without her sister. This poignant scene implies that the characters have deeper layers than what is portrayed in the game.

4 Tyrone King

Terror Is Reality

Dead Rising: Best Psychopaths In The Games, Ranked
  • Games: Dead Rising 2, Dead Rising 2: Off The Record
  • Location: Various
  • Rewards: Story progression, Alternate endings

In Dead Rising 2, the ruthless music producer Tyrone “TK” King debuts for the first time, taking on the roles of host, producer, and director for the macabre reality show titled ‘Terror is Reality’. As the narrative unfolds, it’s revealed that TK orchestrated the zombie outbreak and framed protagonist Chuck, making him the scapegoat.

Initially appearing as a straightforward villain driven by self-interest, this character later proves crucial in supplying Chuck with essential information. An intriguing moral dilemma arises when one must decide to save his life to unlock one of the game’s unique endings – a memorable moment in the thrilling world of Dead Rising 2.

3 Raymond Sullivan

Hidden Mastermind

Dead Rising: Best Psychopaths In The Games, Ranked
  • Games: Dead Rising 2, Dead Rising 2: Off The Record
  • Location: Yucatan Casino
  • Rewards: Story progression

In the game “Dead Rising 2,” Raymond Sullivan’s change of allegiance stands out as one of its most impressive plot twists. Initially, Sullivan presents himself as a stern but caring leader to the survivors, which is how Chuck encounters him first. However, the ruse is skillfully executed, with Sullivan acting doubtful of Chuck’s innocence, even though he knows the truth from the beginning.

In the critical juncture, Sullivan turns against Chuck, exposing his role as another mastermind behind the zombie outbreak. All along, he had been working as an agent for Phenotrans, even operating covertly above TK. It was Sullivan himself who planted the bomb that framed Chuck for it. His gruesome demise is a significant event in the storyline.

2 Carlito Keyes

Terrible Vengeance

Dead Rising: Best Psychopaths In The Games, Ranked
  • Games: Dead Rising
  • Location: Various
  • Rewards: Story progression

In terms of qualifications for being a psychopath, the primary antagonist from the initial “Dead Rising” game, Carlito Keyes, is quite formidable. His troubled past began when Santa Cabeza, his hometown, was devastated by a zombie infestation at a research facility and the ensuing cleanup efforts.

This propels them onto a dark journey of retribution, ultimately leading to the initiation of the Willamette zombie infestation. It’s a dual strategy aimed at exacting vengeance and generating publicity about the wrongdoings of Phenotrans and the U.S. government.

Destroying an entire town as a means of making a statement is a characteristic act of a psychopath, regardless of whether Carlito ultimately receives his just desserts.

1 Isabela Keyes

Redemption Arc

Dead Rising: Best Psychopaths In The Games, Ranked
  • Games: Dead Rising, Dead Rising 2: Case West, Dead Rising 3
  • Location: Various
  • Rewards: Story progression

Initially, Isabela could be seen as equally psychopathic as her brother Carlito, but the guilt she felt after the Willamette incident caused her to switch allegiances and join the survivors. This change of heart made her a significant and recurring figure in the show’s narrative.

In the initial installment of the series, Frank encounters Isabela initially unwilling to aid him. However, she eventually reveals her brother’s strategy to him. A character from the first game who miraculously survived, Isabela reemerges in Dead Rising 2: Case West as a contact for Frank, and later in Dead Rising 3, she is a significant figure in the quest for a solution to the zombie infestation.
