Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster Censorship Explained

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster Censorship Explained

As someone who’s been following Dead Rising since its inception and proudly sporting my “Filthy Communist” t-shirt, I can’t help but feel a bit disheartened by the recent changes Capcom has made to Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster. It seems like every time I turn around, the gaming industry is trying to sanitize our favorite games and strip them of their charm.

As a passionate gamer, I’ve noticed a trend among developers these days – they often revamp remasters or remakes to make them more appealing for today’s audience, supposedly. However, some developers push it too far by removing content that they believe might not resonate with the community, but without first consulting the community as a whole. This has raised some eyebrows, especially with Capcom and their approach to the Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster censorship issues. So, what exactly is happening?

Is Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster Censored?

If you’re an online enthusiast who frequently engages with video game content, you might encounter vocal individuals criticizing upcoming games for supposed censorship issues. Some grievances have merit, while others may be unfounded. Distinguishing fact from fiction can be challenging when the conversation is dominated by shouting. However, if you listen closely, you can investigate these claims yourself. For example, there are allegations of censorship in the Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, as some people claim.

This censorship involves changes to the dialogue, specifically a boss fight involving Cliff Hudson. In the upcoming remaster, Cliff no longer refers to the player as a “filthy communist.” That dialogue line was scrubbed entirely. It’s rubbing people the wrong way for a number of reasons, primarily because this is a mature-rated game and should retain the dialogue from the original game.

Additionally, in the Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, Capcom eliminated the feature to earn Prestige Points through taking suggestive photos. In the original version of the game, capturing a photo of a survivor’s cleavage would grant you points contributing towards your next level-up. However, this system has been completely removed in the remastered version, as stated by Capcom.

In creating Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, we aimed to design a game that would delight long-time fans while also attracting newcomers. As work on the project advanced, we found ourselves unable to incorporate every aspect from the original version. One such element was the Erotica points system, which we debated extensively and ultimately decided to omit. This wasn’t primarily due to shifting cultural trends, but rather because we felt there was no justification for a reward system based on this theme. Furthermore, awarding Frank survival points or considering it a journalistic skill for a survivor during a zombie apocalypse seemed inappropriate. Nonetheless, players will retain the freedom to select their photo subjects as they wish, even though they won’t earn points from these choices. The final decision on what photos to take rests solely with each player, representing their unique experiences throughout the game.

How Much Does Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster Cost?

Many people are hesitant to buy or pre-order the Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster because of the allegations of censorship. However, it’s your personal choice whether to purchase it. If you’re curious about its cost, here’s some information on its pricing:

  • Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster – $49.99
  • Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster Digital Deluxe – $59.99

As a fan eagerly anticipating the game, I can’t help but notice that for an additional $10, you could upgrade to the Digital Deluxe edition. This special version comes packed with some cool in-game items, including the Frank West 2006 Costume, Chucke Green Costume, and the intriguing Willamette Parkview Mall Bee Costume. These exciting additions can be activated and worn at the Security Room within the game itself!
