Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster Doesn't Fix the Franchise's Biggest Plot Hole

Key Takeaways

  • Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster does not resolve the Nick Ramos plot hole from Dead Rising 3.
  • Capcom missed the opportunity to correct the discrepancy in the remaster.
  • The game made other changes but chose not to fix this notable plot hole, for whatever reason.

As a seasoned gamer who has navigated through the undead-filled halls of Willamette Parkview Mall more times than I can count, it’s disheartening to see that Capcom missed an opportunity to rectify a longstanding plot hole in the Dead Rising series with the Deluxe Remaster. The inconsistency surrounding Nick Ramos in Dead Rising 3 is like a rotting zombie in the back of my closet – I just can’t seem to shake it off!

As a passionate fan, I must share with fellow enthusiasts that the long-awaited Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster unfortunately doesn’t resolve the significant plot hole concerning Nick Ramos from Dead Rising 3. Dive back into the undead chaos of the Willamette Parkview Mall as intrepid photojournalist Frank West, now available in this remaster!

This article contains major SPOILERS for Dead Rising

In the Overtime Mode of the Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, character Frank West and Isabela uncover that Carlito contaminated 50 orphans with a parasite causing zombification. Contrary to this, the main game Dead Rising from 2013, featuring Nick Ramos as protagonist, suggests he is the 12th orphan tainted by Carlito. However, the list of infected orphans presented in the original Dead Rising conflicts with this claim.

In the first Dead Rising game, it’s Lisa Jackson, not Nick Ramos, who is the 12th orphan on Carlito’s list. Interestingly, there’s no mention of Nick Ramos in the original list at all. When Capcom remastered Dead Rising, they had a chance to rectify this inconsistency by including Nick Ramos (along with other orphans introduced in Dead Rising 3), but they opted not to, leaving the reason for their decision unknown.

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster Doesn’t Fix the Nick Ramos Plot Hole

In making the Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, Capcom might have overlooked or chose not to address a plot inconsistency known as the Nick Ramos plot hole. It’s also plausible that they are setting up a new narrative direction for the series, similar to how they handled the Resident Evil remakes. Regardless of their intentions, it’s worth noting that this plot hole remains unresolved in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, even though numerous other changes have been implemented in the game.

The enhanced version of Dead Rising, titled Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, has revised the Psychopath characters’ histories, introduced a speed-up function, and implemented substantial visual upgrades. Given the complexity of this particular change compared to others, it appears that Capcom either overlooked it or deemed it insignificant. Regardless, fans of Dead Rising must accept this narrative inconsistency for now. Meanwhile, it remains intriguing whether Capcom will breathe life into any other classic installments of the Dead Rising series in the future.
