If we’re lucky enough to get more Dead Rising games in the future, there’ll be plenty of opportunities to explore new ideas. One intriguing way to mix things up could be by dabbling in a different genre. Now, that might sound unexpected, but Dead Rising already has the foundations to grow into one specific genre quite seamlessly.
The newly launched Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster marks Capcom’s return to their zombie-slaying series, which hasn’t been seen since 2016’s Dead Rising 4. Traditionally, the Dead Rising games adhere to a consistent structure, although it has evolved slightly across different versions. The game offers an open world for exploration, but the narrative and missions are time-bound. Failing to meet these deadlines means the player is barred from completing that mission for the remainder of their playthrough. While players aren’t forced to tackle every mission, mastering time management becomes crucial if they wish to experience the full game.

Although a complete genre transformation like that of the Yakuza series might not be feasible, a side project that transforms the franchise into a full-fledged roguelike game could bring fresh and enjoyable experiences. Given the existing transferable skills and mechanics in the Dead Rising games, it’s worth considering how to smoothly transition from the Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster to a new mainline entry with this concept.
