Summary
- Most Devil Fruits in One Piece have some sort of offensive power, and some are more lethal than others.
- Some Devil Fruits, like Doku Doku no Mi, produce highly fatal substances.
- Specific Devil Fruits like the Magu Magu no Mi have extreme offensive power, and are among the strongest in the series.
In the world of One Piece, most Devil Fruits possess offensive abilities that can be lethal. Notably, any fruit that serves an attacking purpose can potentially cause death. However, the ease with which certain Devil Fruit powers can be used to take a life varies greatly.
Typically, the power of a Devil Fruit is inherently potent in some way, either by producing lethal substances, causing death as a side effect, or both. Although the powers of these Devil Fruits may evolve with their user, they all seem to have an innate deadliness when you consider their abilities and applications.
7. Doku Doku no Mi
Poison Power
- User(s): Magellan
The Doku Doku no Mi is a Devil Fruit that allows the user to generate various poisons, each differing in potency and appearance. If an individual is exposed to multiple poisons, they can accumulate and potentially be fatal, even if one poison could be cured on its own. Additionally, the user can coat themselves with poison as a form of armor, deterring enemies from attempting physical attacks due to the fear of being poisoned.
Without the combination of intense hormone treatment and his inherent strength, Monkey D. Luffy would likely have perished due to the multiple poisons he encountered through the Doku Doku no Mi. Instead, he has developed resistance to numerous types of poison. However, many others lack the specific conditions that enabled his survival, and typically succumb upon exposure to poison.
6. Gasu Gasu no Mi
It’s In The Air
- User(s): Caesar Clown
Caesar Clown is a scientist proficient in developing bioweapons. He skillfully utilizes his Gasu Gasu no Mi abilities, not just for creating harmful gases, but also for combining unstable gases with castanets to make them explosive, which he refers to as “gastanets.” Additionally, Caesar Clown possesses a certain command over oxygen, capable of vacuuming it out from a specific vicinity to instantly incapacitate nearby adversaries, and employing it to fuel a lighter or sword with an oxidized flame.
Just like how Luffy, a character from One Piece, has immunity to the poison of the Doku Doku no Mi due to previous exposure, Caesar is similarly toxic but takes offense at being compared to it. The implications of Caesar’s poisons are lethal, and if not for Luffy’s resistance, he might have been killed by them.
5. Goro Goro no Mi
High Voltage
- User(s): Enel
With the Goro Goro Fruit, Enel transformed from a common Birkan into a being revered as a “Deity.” Enel has the unique capability to generate, manipulate, and transform into lightning. Not only can he use this power to shock, burn, and electrify enemies, but it also serves other purposes such as powering objects, sensing electric waves, and miraculously reviving himself if he experiences cardiac arrest.
In this instance, it’s Luffy who buckles the trend, thanks to the unique immunity derived from his rubbery Devil Fruit abilities. While his power has been known to instill fear among Skypiea’s inhabitants, Enel, wielder of the Goro Goro no Mi, took things a step further. He used his powers to obliterate his own hometown, Birka, setting it ablaze.
4. Ope Ope no Mi
Playing Doctor
- User(s) Trafalgar D. Water Law
The Ope Ope no Mi is a powerful Devil Fruit that carries significant risks, even for its user. Operating this fruit demands some understanding of medicine, as it enables the user to manipulate a patient’s body within a unique dimension called the ROOM. This power allows the user to make precise, non-lethal incisions on themselves, rearranging their body structure and extracting organs without causing harm to their physical self.
In simpler terms, this ability can be misused to cause serious harm or even death to others. For instance, taking out someone’s vital organ like a heart and destroying it away from their body will result in their demise. This was initially observed when Trafalgar D. Water Law collaborated with Caesar Clown. In this case, Law replaced Smoker’s heart with Monet’s, giving it to Caesar Clown. When he stabbed Monet’s heart to kill Smoker, the consequence was lethal for Monet.
The Ope Ope no Mi grants not only the power of healing but also offers an unnatural longevity through a procedure called Perennial Youth Operation, a process that proves fatal for the user. Some believe that Imu, the secret ruler of the World Government, underwent this operation, lending credence to theories linking them to the Void Century and the formation of the World Government. Despite Doflamingo’s desire for Law to bestow eternal life upon him, the young pirate is still alive and has yet to carry out the procedure.
3. Magu Magu no Mi
Scorched Earth
- User(s): Sakazuki “Akainu”
In the captivating world of One Piece, I’ve come across a remarkable entity known as the Magu Magu no Mi. This Devil Fruit is legendary for its immense offensive capabilities among all Logia types. Its unique ability allows its wielder to transform into magma and manipulate it at will. The magma produced by this fruit has proven deadly, taking lives and causing extensive environmental damage.
During the Summit War, this fruit was instrumental in the burning down of Moby Dick, the Whitebeard Pirates’ flagship. More significantly, its use on Punk Hazard, alongside the Hie Hie no Mi, drastically altered the local climate. This climactic duel between the two fruit users, aiming to secure the position of Fleet Admiral, was won by Sakazuki.
To put it simply, the Magu Magu no Mi, a powerful Devil Fruit, was used to fatally wound Portgas D. Ace, intending for the blow to hit his brother, Monkey D. Luffy. In an act of selflessness and bravery, Ace stepped in front of Luffy to shield him from harm, but tragically, he received the full impact instead, leaving him mortally wounded with severely damaged internal organs. This heartbreaking incident instilled a deep-seated resentment within Luffy towards Akainu, who was responsible for wielding the Magu Magu no Mi at that time.
2. Kage Kage no Mi
Overshadowing (and Undershadowing)
- User(s): Gecko Moria
The Kage Kage no Mi grants its wielder shadow manipulation abilities. They have the power to seize shadows from others’ bodies and link them to dead bodies, thereby producing “shadow-possessed corpses,” or as you might call them, “zombies.” This talent can also be employed to acquire shadows for themselves, or interchange their own with another entity.
Interestingly, the lethal consequences of this Devil Fruit are often linked to the side effects of its abilities. People without shadows perish in sunlight, so a user could unintentionally cause someone’s death by removing their shadow and exposing them to sunlight. However, for a user like Moria, this isn’t beneficial because his heavy dependence on others’ shadows makes killing them detrimental since he can’t control shadows once their owners are deceased. Unfortunately, during the Summit War, Moria inadvertently killed marine grunts when using their shadows to empower his zombies.
1. Soru Soru no Mi
Soul Sucking
- User(s) Charlotte “Big Mom” Linlin, “Mother” Carmel
The Devil Fruit that this character possesses enables them to control and manipulate the essence of life, often referred to as souls. Previously consumed by a secretive child trafficker named Mother Carmel, it was ultimately Charlotte Linlin who accidentally ingested both Carmel and the power of the fruit. Known as the “Soul-Soul Fruit,” Linlin has exploited its abilities to construct her empire, giving rise to beings called homies by harnessing the stolen lifespans.
Linlin levies a tax on her citizens within Totto Land, compelling them to exchange their life expectancy for continued existence on the island. It seems that leaving Totto Land is prohibited, leading to an ongoing accumulation of lifespan resources in direct proportion to the current population.
Unlike Moria, who often lets his prisoners live, Linlin tends to actively kill her victims, such as Zepo, to claim their entire lifespans. In a fit of anger, she even used this power to kill her own son, Moscato. However, it was later discovered that this ability might be reversible, as Charlotte Mont D’or managed to restore Moscato’s life after the Incarnations retrieved his remaining lifespan. The Soru Soru no Mi has one exception: those who do not fear Linlin are immune to its effects.
