Kojima Productions unveiled the Collector’s Edition for “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach,” but it has faced significant backlash from fans because the expensive package doesn’t include a physical version of the game along with its digital content. In contrast to other Collector’s Editions, the “Death Stranding 2” Collector’s Edition includes various in-game items, physical collectibles, and the entire game. However, instead of receiving a physical copy of the game, players will get a digital code to download “Death Stranding 2.”

Following an unauthorized disclosure of pre-order information and details about the Collector’s Edition for Death Stranding 2, Kojima Productions unveiled an extended trailer for the much-awaited sequel. The ten-minute video provided fans a comprehensive glimpse into the game, along with confirming the release date of June 26, 2025, for Death Stranding 2. With the game’s launch only a few short months away, pre-orders for all versions of Death Stranding 2 are scheduled to begin on March 17. However, PlayStation and Kojima Productions might face challenges in selling the Collector’s Edition due to fan dissatisfaction with its apparent lack of a physical copy of the game.

Death Stranding 2’s Collector’s Edition Has No Physical Game

After unveiling the Collector’s Edition of Death Stranding 2, fans criticized Kojima Productions and PlayStation on Twitter, stating that the lack of a physical game copy sets a negative example. User Nitroid deemed it “very poor practice,” while Nuno da Silva called it “extremely consumer-unfriendly.” Others like Lance McDonald pointed out that excluding a physical game from a Collector’s Edition goes against its purpose, and fans on Reddit have labeled the edition as a “joke” for offering mostly digital content instead of a physical disc or artbook.

There are three different versions of Death Stranding 2 available for purchase:

1. The Standard Edition, priced at $69.99, includes only the game and some pre-order bonuses if purchased before its release.
2. The Digital Deluxe Edition, costing $79.99, offers early access to the game (48 hours before general release) and various in-game items such as patches and an early unlock for the Machine Gun.
3. The Collector’s Edition, priced at $229, contains all of the previously mentioned content, along with a collectors box, a 15” Magellan Man Statue, a 3” Dollman figurine, art cards, and a letter from Hideo Kojima, creator of Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding.
