Following several months of eager waiting, enthusiasts of the 2019 game “Death Stranding” were recently given a first glimpse at its sequel’s unveiling, set for release on June 26, 2025. The trailer introduced some intriguing characters, both new faces like Neil and returning adversaries such as Higgs, while also providing details about the PS5 exclusive’s launch date and special editions. Notable inclusions in “Death Stranding 2” Collector’s Edition are the 15-inch Magellan Man statue and the 3-inch Dollman figurine, inspired by two characters featured in the recently released video. Kojima, who has been actively discussing the trailer’s details on social media since its release, recently disclosed a minor but crucial alteration made to the Magellan Man statue’s design.
In a tweet, Hideo Kojima shared an initial sketch of the Magellan Man statue from Death Stranding. Originally, the game’s protagonist, Sam, was intended to be placed on the statue’s left hand. However, it seems that a miniature version of Sam was originally planned for inclusion in the statue design but ultimately wasn’t used due to being too small to effectively incorporate into the overall statue. Kojima also mentioned that game designer Entei Ryu created the Collector’s Edition item and worked under the close supervision of Yoji Shinkawa, a longtime collaborator of Kojima from the Metal Gear series. Kojima referred to these early versions of the Magellan Man statue as a reflection of the spirit and soul of Kojima Productions.
Hideo Kojima Reveals Initial Plans for Death Stranding 2’s Collector’s Edition Statue
Instead of including a small figure of Sam on the Magellan Man statue, it seems unimportant since the initial design indicated that it was meant to be a minor element in the overall appearance. So far, reactions to Magellan Man have been positive, with fans noting similarities between the mech on its head and Metal Gear Rex. It’s safe to say that this mysterious giant has already piqued the community’s interest. Another aspect of the trailer that has intrigued fans is the resemblance of Neil to Solid Snake, which could be a tribute to Kojima’s work on Metal Gear.
Despite limited official details on Neil from Death Stranding 2 at present, some intriguing scenes in the trailer hint that his function might mirror Cliff’s role in the original game. As Kojima’s upcoming title gets nearer to its launch, enthusiasts can anticipate uncovering additional insights about this captivating new character, portrayed by Luca Marinelli, who exhibits certain characteristics akin to the Metal Gear Solid lead character.
