Death Stranding 2 Includes Surprising Melee Weapon

Summary

  • Death Stranding 2: On the Beach features a unique ‘battle guitar’ melee weapon.
  • Higgs, the antagonist from the original Death Stranding, is shown wielding a sort of futuristic guitar in one of Death Stranding 2’s trailers.
  • Death Stranding 2 will be released on June 26.

In the upcoming sequel titled “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach,” character Sam Porter Bridges will wield an unexpected close-combat tool, referred to as a “battle guitar.” This sequel to the 2019 release, “Death Stranding,” is set to debut on PlayStation 5 on June 26. The story continues with Sam and Fragile working together to reestablish connections between cities, similar to their efforts in the first game for the Cities of America. The second installment also presents enigmas such as the vanishing of Lou, the unexpected resurfacing of Higgs, and the revelation of Tomorrow’s hidden past.

As the release of Death Stranding 2 approaches within a few weeks, the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) has unveiled its official rating: “M for Mature.” This implies the game includes mature content, such as Sam engaging in fights with humans, robots, and spectral entities using hand-to-hand combat, firearms, and stealth strategies. Interestingly, Hideo Kojima previously hinted at a more pronounced emphasis on combats in Death Stranding 2, but there’s a slight detail in the ESRB description that may intrigue some fans: the mention of spectral entities.

In the ESRB description for “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach,” it’s noted that one of Sam’s melee weapons is a “battle guitar.” This weapon was also wielded by the villain from the first “Death Stranding,” Higgs, in the second trailer. In an impressive display, Higgs strums a futuristic electric guitar before engaging in combat with a sword-wielding robot.

Death Stranding 2 Will Let Players Wield Higgs’s ‘Battle Guitar’

Based on the ESRB summary, it appears players in Death Stranding 2 may have an opportunity to wield this unusual weapon themselves, but the specifics of acquiring it from Higgs remain unclear. It’s speculated that Sam might seize the guitar following a boss fight against the Homo Demens leader, who reappears with a fresh rocker/jester appearance after his defeat at the end of the first Death Stranding. There’s also a possibility that Higgs could become playable at certain points in the game.

This week’s Summer Game Fest 2025 event will see Hideo Kojima make an appearance, and on June 8th, there will be a special premiere livestream for Death Stranding 2. This latter event promises special guests and live gameplay from Death Stranding 2, offering glimpses of the post-apocalyptic world just weeks before players return to make risky deliveries again. It remains unclear if we’ll see Sam wielding his new guitar weapon during gameplay, but that revelation may come later.
