Death Stranding 2 To Feature Quality And Performance Modes

Summary

  • Death Stranding 2 offers Performance Mode at 60fps and Quality Mode at 30fps.
  • Key previews recommend Performance Mode for smoother gameplay over visual fidelity.
  • Death Stranding 2 release set for June 26 on PS5, unlikely to be delayed.

Players eagerly anticipating the launch of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach later this year will have the opportunity to decide whether they value superior graphics (visual fidelity) or a seamless gaming experience (smooth play) more when customizing their gameplay settings.

Based on several leaked previews over the last week, it appears that Death Stranding 2’s graphical settings have been confirmed, although Kojima Productions has yet to make an official announcement.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach Performance and Quality Mode Confirmed At Launch

Geoff Keighley, the producer of The Game Awards, shared on X (previously known as Twitter), that the game he played operates at 60 frames per second (fps) in Performance Mode and 30fps in Quality Mode. Keighley personally favored playing the game in Performance Mode, a choice I believe many gamers would make too.

The recently revived Game Informer also endorsed this in their test play, stating that Performance Mode, though causing a minor decrease in visual quality, is preferable due to maintaining the excellent 60fps gameplay. According to the review, while Quality Mode offers high-resolution graphics, it’s better to switch to Performance Mode for a seamless gaming experience at 60 frames per second. The only significant issue noticed was occasional grass pop-in. Despite this, the game looks stunning in both modes, and it’s important to note that the testing was done on a standard PS5.

Keep in mind that the standard PS5 model will offer both modes, implying that the PS5 Pro version will boast additional improvements.

The sequel to Death Stranding, titled “Death Stranding 2,” has its launch date set for June 26 on PS5, and there are no signs of delays at the moment. Given Sony’s focus on Ghost of Yotei as their major holiday 2025 release, it appears that Death Stranding 2 will indeed be released as planned unless Hideo Kojima decides to move the game to 2026, which seems improbable given Grand Theft Auto 6 is slated for May 2026. It’s a game that Kojima himself acknowledges can influence release dates. In simple terms, Death Stranding 2’s release date appears set in stone unless there are unexpected changes.

Regarding Kojima and the Death Stranding series, the game director didn’t completely rule out a third installment, but it appears he won’t be leading it himself. Instead, he’s likely going to assign the project to another team so he can concentrate on different ventures.
