As a die-hard fan of Death Stranding, I can’t help but be excited about the prospect of Sam’s journey becoming even more adventurous and challenging in the upcoming sequel. The idea of adding a heavy-duty helium balloon to Sam’s backpack for easier transport of packages is nothing short of ingenious.
In Death Stranding, traversing post-apocalyptic America as Sam, the Bridge Man, is no simple task. He carries extremely heavy loads on his reliable backpack for delivery, all while ensuring the safety of the cargo and keeping batteries charged. The journey through the future USA can be challenging, with MULEs to avoid along the way. However, what if players could make this journey less complex?
As a seasoned gamer and long-time fan of Hideo Kojima’s groundbreaking work, I’m both excited and intrigued by the upcoming sequel to Death Stranding, titled Death Stranding 2. While we still have much to learn about this highly anticipated game, one thing is clear – Sam, the protagonist, will once again find himself in a world filled with otherworldly threats.

In a Reddit post, user Soloberrk discovered a video featuring Brendan Carberry of Failure Is an Option. Carberry, a former aircraft engineer, demonstrated an inventive solution for hikers: attaching a large helium balloon to a backpack to reduce weight, despite the balloon tagging along.
As a seasoned backpacker with years of experience trekking through rugged mountains and unforgiving terrain, I can’t help but be intrigued by this innovative reel concept. For those of us who carry heavy loads on our backs for days on end, every ounce counts. The ability to lighten the load while maintaining essential gear would be a game-changer.
“I think this is an intriguing concept. However, it comes with some risks – if my cargo gets knocked off by Mule attacks or stumbles, it could float away. Still, it’s a thrilling idea that adds excitement to the game.”
One worry is that Sam, being easily noticeable, could become a target and may not survive the encounter with TimeFall. Additionally, there’s the doubt if the balloon can endure this phenomenon. To mitigate these issues, we might need to find a means to hide the balloon and limit its usage to critical situations. Regardless, the convenience of delivering numerous packages at once without interruption would be invaluable. No more returning for lost parcels!
