Deathbound: Anna Lepus’ Best Talents

Deathbound: Anna Lepus' Best Talents

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I must say that Deathbound has certainly piqued my interest. This Soulslike title, while somewhat clumsy in its gameplay mechanics, boasts an intriguing concept and fresh gameplay elements that set it apart from its peers.

In the growing collection of games influenced by From Software’s renowned series, we find Deathbound, a fresh take on the Soulslike genre. While its gameplay may feel somewhat rigid and unrefined at times, the concept, narrative, and innovative gameplay elements that Deathbound offers are truly imaginative.

In the game “Deathbound”, one standout feature is the Essences system. This game uniquely allows you to control four characters, each with their own health meter, who are all part of the same entity. Characters like warriors, mages, and even assassins are present, with Anna Lepus taking on the thief or assassin role. She performs exceptionally well in this role when equipped with the right skills, so let’s delve into her optimal choices.

Talent System & Memory Points

How to Get Points & How Talents Work

In Deathbound, your character’s progression primarily relies on talents, although it may not appear obvious at the beginning. While the skill tree in the leveling menu does contribute significantly to your strength and abilities over the course of Deathbound, the individual improvements are relatively small and gradual. However, unlocking a single talent can make an Essence character feel exponentially stronger, provided you choose the right Talent.

To acquire Talents in the game, initially, you will require Memory Points. These Memory Points are scattered across the game and can be recognized by small, ethereal objects that become visible only to the Essence the Memory is related to. When you encounter a Memory Point for the first time and the specific interactable, pay attention to the sound it emits when you’re nearby. Make sure to listen for this sound as you advance in the game.

As a fan, I always find myself on the hunt whenever I hear it. Once spotted, I switch between different realms until the object appears less ghostly and more substantial. Interacting with this ethereal item often reveals a memory of one of my playable characters or grants me a Key Item connected to one of my Essences. Following this, I notice that the specific character now possesses a Memory Point, which can be utilized when we reach the next Phylactery.

Anna Lepus’ Talents

Our Recommendations For Her Overall Strongest Talents

Name Effect
Toxicology Melee attacks inflict poison.
Twist the Blade Can Morph during backstab to increase damage using Sync.
No Witnesses Backstabbing increases the damage of bound Essences by 20 percent for 6 seconds.
Tactical Retreat Increases Movement Speed by 30 percent when at low Health.
Coup De Grace Grants a 10 percent damage increase when killing poisoned enemies. Max 5 stacks.
Tricks of the Trade Anna’s Morph Strikes reload her crossbow with Corrupted Essence Bolts.
Staggering Shot When in Conflict, ranged attacks stagger unaware enemies.

It’s worth noting that Anna, among all Essences in Deathbound, is quite strong, largely due to her exceptional talents. Compared to other playable characters in this game, there are more ordinary talents than one might initially think. However, the talents assigned to Anna stand out as particularly impressive. Among them, Toxicology, Coup De Grace, and Tricks of the Trade have proven to be the most effective, for the following reasons:

  • Toxicology: There are a couple of Essences you’ll collect in Deathbound that have ways to apply elements to different attacks. Some items can do it, and some characters can cast a ‘team-wide’ buff that does it, but Anna is the only one that really has it by default, once Toxicology is obtained. And, with how fast Anna attacks, you actually poison most if not all enemies that you fight with her.
  • Coup De Grace: With all the ways you can apply Poison in Deathbound (Anna’s Toxicology being one of the most prominent), this Talent is activated pretty often. And, at max stacks, that’s a 50 percent damage increase, which can make the game an absolute cakewalk in the right situation.
  • Tricks of the Trade: Anna’s Crossbow is by far one of her strongest tools, and the game is actually pretty generous in giving you more bolts as you kill enemies. However, reloading this weapon takes quite a lot of time without proper Level investment and typically leaves Anna incredibly vulnerable. But, with Tricks of the Trade, you can use Anna’s Morph Strikes to avoid this reloading animation altogether as well as get the extra benefit of having the next 3 shots fire Corrupted Bolts.

While Anna possesses several impressive talents, here’s a suggested order for utilizing them effectively: Tactical Retreat, Staggering Shot, Twist the Blade, and No Witnesses. This character excels in agility, stealth, and surprise attacks when the opportunity arises. However, it’s essential to note that backstabbing in Deathbound is only possible against humanoid enemies. Even if an enemy is humanoid but slightly taller than expected, it won’t trigger a backstab. Contrary to first impressions, backstabbing plays a lesser role in Anna’s overall abilities compared to her other talents.
