Regrettably, the decline in quality during later seasons became unacceptable, prompting many viewers to criticize and express their disappointment with the series’ writing.

Nevertheless, the numerous startling instances within this series, particularly the numerous deaths experienced by viewers in “Game of Thrones”, should not be understated. Even though these events carry significant storytelling impact, many fans might propose that these deaths could potentially have been averted under different circumstances.

In his pride, Oberyn Martell assumes victory, but is fatally deceived when his adversary catches him off guard and brutally crushes his skull in a gruesome end that could have been prevented had he maintained focus during this crucial battle for survival.

Critics widely criticized the poorly written final season, particularly because it presented a fresh plot twist that didn’t get enough development. Despite enduring multiple emotionally scarring experiences, Daenerys ultimately breaks under pressure when she commands the destruction of King’s Landing.

Instead of her troops and dragons slaughtering everything indiscriminately in an appalling turn of events that should have been avoided from the start, if the Queen had kept her composure, then Jon would not have found it necessary to take the life of his beloved in a chilling act.

His unwavering integrity ultimately led to his downfall; Joffrey impulsively ordered his execution, causing a chain reaction of consequences across all of Westeros. Unfortunately, Cersei lacked the authority to intervene at that critical juncture and allow a potentially valuable political captive to live.

5. Khal Drogo

Trusting Mirri Maz Duur Was A Fatal Mistake

As a movie connoisseur, I find myself drawn to the captivating figure of Khal Drogo. Initially, he was portrayed as a ruthless despot, but over time, he transformed into a character who won both Daenerys’ heart and ours. His unwavering loyalty towards his spouse and fearsome presence on the battlefield were undeniable. However, fate struck him with a grievous wound, and in an act of devotion, Daenerys yearned to nurse him back to health.

She sought aid from the priestess Mirri Maz Duur, an act that proved disastrous. This temple-woman retaliated against the Dothraki for their savage attack by poisoning his wound, causing Drogo to lapse into a comatose state. The Khaleesi recognized that her husband preferred death over such a pitiful existence and suffocated him. In turn, she condemned Mirri Maz Duur to a fiery demise for her crimes.

4. Robb, Talisa, & Catelyn Stark

Robb’s Amorous Adventures Led To The Infamous Red Wedding

One memorable scene from television history is known as The Red Wedding, where King Robb and many of his followers met a violent end. When the head of House Stark ended his previous marriage agreement, Walder Frey retaliated against all of House Stark by cruelly taking their lives in an emotionally charged event that continues to shock fans even today.

Although Robb broke his promise, his response was entirely unwarranted. The way Robb, Talisa, and Catelyn met a tragic and unmerited end made it appear as if the Stark family had been wiped out permanently.

3. The Night King

Died In A Hilariously Convenient Manner That Was Hard To Digest

In a less successful season, the weak storytelling led to several losses, among them being the renowned Night King – a White Walker who had been portrayed as an apparently unbeatable menace. However, his demise came anticlimactically when he was defeated by Arya.

In my opinion, as a movie reviewer, the character’s reckless advance was halted by the Night King, yet strangely, she seemingly lost her dagger during the confrontation, delivering what seemed like a last-minute blow to annihilate all the White Walkers. This sudden resolution to eliminate this formidable undead army felt rather contrived and lacked the earned satisfaction we had been anticipating after such a prolonged and intense build-up of tension across multiple seasons.

2. Viserys Targaryen

A Diplomatic Mind Would Never Have Incurred Khal Drogo’s Wrath

  • Takes Place In: A Golden Crown (Season 1, Episode 6)

The Targaryens were once known for their noble lineage, but much of their past grandeur faded following the deeds and the murder of King Aerys, who was infamously called the Mad King. Nevertheless, Viserys harbored dreams of restoring his family’s influence, leveraging his sister as a valuable asset to seek aid from the Dothraki.

Instead of holding back his anger and choosing a more respectful tone, Viserys openly insulted Khal Drogo and his people, whom he viewed as barbaric warriors. In response to an alcohol-fueled outburst that went too far, Khal Drogo decided to mete out punishment by granting Viserys the crown he desired. Had Viserys been more careful with his words, he might have avoided the gruesome end where his head was covered in gold.

1. Shae

Things Would’ve Been Different If She’d Been Loyal To Tyrion

  • Takes Place In: The Children (Season 4, Episode 10)

Initially, Shae and Tyrion shared a strong bond, but things changed when Tyrion married Sansa. As the relationship between Sansa and Tyrion developed, Shae began feeling insecure. Unfortunately, Tyrion’s attempts to alleviate her insecurity by dismissing her feelings only worsened the situation. This tactic ultimately did not work in his favor.

Following Joffrey’s demise and Shae’s testimonial, Tyrion found himself on the brink of execution. Yet he wasn’t ready to meet his end quietly. Having escaped from prison, he came upon Shae in Tywin’s bed, enraged by her deceit. In a fit of anger, he choked her with a golden necklace for her treachery. If they had only been able to patch things up and find comfort together, Shae might have lived and even managed to escape alongside Tyrion. Regrettably, destiny had other plans for her.
