Doug Bowser, President and CEO of Nintendo of America, will be leaving his position on December 31st. This comes after a very successful year for Nintendo, including the launch of their new Switch 2 console. The Switch 2 quickly became Nintendo’s fastest-selling home console ever, with over 3.5 million units sold in just four days. Nintendo is now thanking Bowser for his leadership of the American division.
So, it’s kinda wild to think about, but Doug Bowser’s stepping down as President of Nintendo of America. He took over back in 2019 when Reggie Fils-Aime left, and honestly, it was a funny moment for us gamers when he was announced – can you imagine a Nintendo President named Bowser?! He’d been with the company since 2015, starting as VP of sales and marketing, and he’s been awesome. Luckily, Nintendo’s already got someone lined up to take his place, so things should go smoothly.
December 31 is Doug Bowser’s Last Day at Nintendo
Doug Bowser will be stepping down as President and CEO of Nintendo of America on December 31st, officially retiring from the role. Bowser described leading Nintendo of America as a great honor, recalling his early days as a gamer playing Donkey Kong. He feels it’s the right time to pass leadership to Devon Pritchard, the incoming President, and believes in the strength of the next generation of leaders. Satoru Shibata, formerly President of Nintendo of Europe, will also take on a key executive role as CEO.

Nintendo has announced that Devon Pritchard will be taking over from Doug Bowser as President of Nintendo of America on January 1st. Pritchard isn’t new to Nintendo; he’s been with the company since 2006, starting in the legal department and most recently serving as Executive Vice President of Revenue, Marketing, and Consumer Experience. This continues Nintendo of America’s pattern of choosing presidents with backgrounds in sales and marketing, following in the footsteps of Reggie Fils-Aime and Doug Bowser.
