The initial installment of “Daredevil: Reborn” has come to a close, and its creative lead has offered a tantalizing peek at the series that die-hard fans are bound to cherish.
On March 4, 2025, Daredevil: Born Again made its debut on Disney+ as a continuation of the original Daredevil series. Charlie Cox reappears as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, and other familiar faces such as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio), Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll), and Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) are also back. The first season consists of nine episodes, with the final episode airing on April 15. The finale hints at a need to unite against Fisk, which brings to mind the Defenders — Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Danny Rand. Recently, the showrunner has shared whether they intend to resurrect these other Defenders from Josie’s in Daredevil.
Entertainment Weekly queried Dario Scardapane, the showrunner, about the possibility of a Defenders reunion while he was planning Season 2. Scardapane hinted that the idea had been considered, stating, “While working within what I refer to as the Hell’s Kitchen sector of the MCU, those legendary characters are never far from your thoughts.” He further explained that they aimed to bring back individuals who had connections with Matt Murdock because their presence significantly impacted his narrative, particularly when Wilson Fisk takes control of the city. Scardapane also hinted at themes of “resistance and rebellion,” revealing that both vigilantes, superheroes, and civilians would be involved due to the ongoing events in the city. However, he emphasized that they wouldn’t include characters haphazardly; instead, they wanted a storyline that was completely organic, with purpose and reasoning behind any characters featured within the show. He added:
To simply put it, indeed, the characters you mentioned are residing within my mind, and I assume they are also present in everyone else’s minds during our creative process.
Daredevil: Born Again Could Be Bringing Back The Netflix Era Of Marvel Shows With A Defenders Team-Up

Scardapane openly acknowledged that the writers found it challenging to address this matter, and he described his approach as being “deliberately vague.” He further explained that while he wouldn’t reveal much, a Defenders reunion was under consideration. However, it’s important to note that the Luke in the initial season who accompanied Gallo is not Luke Cage. Scardapane understands that fans have been searching for hints or references, but at this point, Luke isn’t one of them. There are whispers suggesting that Krysten Ritter might be the first Defender to appear in “Daredevil: Born Again.” In February, she shared on her Instagram Story that she was in New York City. Coincidentally, around the same time, Marvel’s Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation, Brad Winderbaum, announced that filming for “Daredevil: Born Again” Season 2 would commence in New York City.
I’m thrilled at the prospect of having Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist join Daredevil in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. As a dedicated fan of the original Defenders, I can’t wait to witness their reunion and appreciate the deep-rooted connections between these characters. This move would not only validate the continuity of the Netflix era but also reward longtime viewers like myself who have followed these series closely.
What makes this idea even more exciting is the dynamic chemistry Daredevil shares with these characters, particularly in terms of their contrasting morals. For example, Daredevil grapples with questions of morality, justice, and redemption, while Jessica’s dark journey mirrors and challenges his beliefs, promising a rich narrative.
Moreover, the inclusion of these characters could help establish a more grounded storyline, possibly paving the way for potential spinoffs or crossovers with other Marvel shows. This interconnected universe is one of the key strengths of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and I can’t wait to see how it unfolds in the world of Daredevil.
Daredevil: Born Again is available to stream on Disney+.
