It’s possible that a set of four distinct Doom games, known as the Doom Slayers Collection, could come back with updated versions for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2024, following their delisting. This first-person shooter (FPS) compilation includes remastered versions of the original Doom, Doom 2, Doom 3, and a reboot of the series from 2016, named just Doom.

1993’s “Doom,” developed by id Software, had an exceptional impact on the first-person shooter genre, introducing groundbreaking features like 3D graphics, multiplayer matches, and user-created mod support. The game was a massive hit at launch and gave birth to a successful franchise that spans video games and live-action films. Its significant influence in gaming history nearly led to a crossover episode called “Secret Level,” although this never materialized. However, there are indications of the impending release of a “Doom” game collection, which was taken offline in August 2024 digitally.

It seems like the “Doom Slayer’s Collection,” initially launched in 2019 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, might be making a reappearance soon. The ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) has given it an “M” rating, hinting at its possible release on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. However, the ESRB’s website only lists these two consoles along with PC as potential platforms, implying that the Nintendo Switch and last-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles may not receive the digital version of this collection. Additionally, it’s worth noting that recently, the ESRB rated “Doom 64” for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. This could increase the likelihood of the return of the “Doom Slayers Collection,” as the physical edition of the collection originally came with a download code for the remastered version of “Doom 64.

Given this pattern in the past by publisher Bethesda, it’s not surprising that a new release of the Doom Slayer Collection, aimed at current-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles, might be on the horizon. Additionally, this would align with id Software’s practice of porting their existing game library to current-gen consoles, as seen in the case of Quake 2.
