In December of 2024, Team Jade launched a free-to-play, multiplayer-focused revival of the once dormant Delta Force series. This new version has been generally well-received with mostly positive feedback.

Initially, the game attracted a decent number of players, but the release of the advertised campaign mode inspired by Ridley Scott’s Black Hawk Down (2001) movie experienced a delay.

Fortunately, the long wait for the campaign’s launch is nearing its end, as “Delta Force: Black Hawk Down” is almost set to be released on February 21st.

Just last week, developers organized a sneak peek event in Los Angeles, allowing me the opportunity to play through the opening chapters of the eagerly awaited storyline.

You can play Delta Force: Black Hawk Down solo or with a team of up to four players. Although you can finish the whole campaign on your own, I found that it’s more enjoyable to team up with others when you can.

In the current setup, the game Black Hawk Down doesn’t offer any adjustable difficulty settings. Instead, the designers have purposefully designed a sequence of seven levels that can come across as quite challenging, frequently immersing you in potentially hazardous situations.

In a single-player setting, the character’s maximum health and ammunition reserves receive a slight boost, making them stronger than at the beginning of cooperative play. However, playing with friends would still make the game significantly easier to navigate.

As part of a trio, I swiftly realized in our Black Hawk Down gaming sessions that effective communication was the key to achieving victory.

From all sides, it seems as though adversaries are approaching, so identifying targets, resuscitating allies, and dividing to clear various paths of advancement swiftly turn into essential strategies for staying alive.

Fervent enthusiasts of strategic military shooter games, which value accuracy and strategic thinking, are likely to appreciate the demanding difficulty level.

Although we’d made considerable progress learning together initially, it turned out that we were unable to finish even one level during our initial attempt, as we were still getting used to working cohesively as an unfamiliar team.

As a gaming enthusiast diving into Black Hawk Down, whether it turns out to be good or bad for you depends on your preferences. If you’re all about tactical military shooters that demand precision and strategic thinking, then buckle up! You’ll find the game offers a challenging experience that will surely satisfy your tactical cravings.

As a gamer, I’m excited to embrace the challenge of tackling tough levels, even if we don’t make it past on the first try. The real reward comes from dissecting our mistakes, learning about enemy positions, and strategizing new approaches for our next go at those objectives.

Adrenaline-Pumping Gameplay

Experiencing Delta Force: Black Hawk Down can be quite intense. So, what’s it like to actually play this game?

Playing Delta Force: Black Hawk Down is an immersive and demanding experience. How does the gameplay feel in reality?

Additionally, I must share that the gunplay in Black Hawk Down was not only seamless but also highly gratifying for me.

As a fan, I can’t wait to explore the diverse array of weapons at my disposal in this game! These aren’t just any weapons; they’re the ones that were popular in 1993. You’ll find an assortment of assault rifles, shotguns, snipers, and handguns for me to test out, giving each starting class a unique feel.

In contrast to Delta Force’s multiplayer aspect leaning towards modern military shooter settings, Black Hawk Down sensibly steers clear of anachronisms and maintains a grounded, realistic gameplay experience.

Each weapon I handle seems satisfying, and the hits that connect with adversaries carry a significant weight and impact. Soft opponents, particularly those in shooting games, are something I dislike intensely, and there was never an instance where it felt like my targets were surviving beyond their due course.

Each level boasted a vast feeling of height, with adversaries stationed on balconies, rooftops, and towers spread across the entire playfield. This significantly amplifies the suspense, underscoring that safety is always an illusion, even if you believe you’ve purged a specific area clean. Unbeknownst to you, a cunning foe could lurk undetected near a window you may have overlooked, ready to strike from behind at any moment.

In this scenario, you’ll need to navigate Humvees amidst relentless attacks from machine guns, grenades, and RPGs. Your goal is to complete missions under heavy enemy fire, with some objectives having strict time limits. If the timer runs out on these timed missions, it will result in mission failure. The game Black Hawk Down thrives on maintaining a high level of tension throughout.

In this scenario, it’s important to note that this also applies when friendly fire is involved within the game. During a tense battle, one of my AI-controlled teammates unintentionally stood in my line of fire at a crucial moment, and as a result, I ended up eliminating him inadvertently.

By rephrasing the sentence, we’ve made it clearer that the teammate was controlled by an artificial intelligence system rather than another human player, and emphasized the unintentional nature of the action.

When firing, make sure to pay close attention to each bullet, ensuring that none accidentally hits your fellow team members.

Solid Presentation

As a devoted fan, I can confidently say that my gaming experience with Black Hawk Down has been consistently seamless, particularly in terms of presentation and performance. Although it might not be the most visually stunning game I’ve ever encountered, the character models, weapons, and levels all maintain an impressive level of detail while running at a steady, fluid frame rate.

If you appreciate the 2001 movie, you’ll find delight in recognizing some character designs in the game as they closely resemble their on-screen versions, often with a silvery sheen.

As a gamer diving into Delta Force: Black Hawk Down, I’ve got to say the sound design is top-notch, and the voice acting is on point. Overall, it feels like I’m part of a refined gaming experience that leaves me pleased once I dive in.

A Bit Of A Throwback

It seems like the fact that Black Hawk Down takes place in 1993 may have contributed to the sense I got that I was playing a modernized version of an older type of first-person shooter game, which we don’t get to experience as frequently any more.

It was refreshing in the modern gaming landscape to demo a title that feels this grounded.

Indeed, the title appears fresh and functions flawlessly like many modern shooter games. However, the gameplay and simple missions reminded me of some of my all-time favorite shooters from the PlayStation 3/Xbox 360 era.

It was invigorating to try out a game in today’s competitive market that feels so authentic, doesn’t strive for grandeur beyond its capabilities, and instead offers a focused, level-by-level First-Person Shooter experience brimming with challenges and opportunities for repeated play.

I found the somber mood of Black Hawk Down and its strangely nostalgic gameplay design to be a refreshing change for me. However, I’m curious if today’s players might anticipate somewhat different experiences when playing this game as a whole.

This game isn’t about amassing treasure, leaping walls, soaring with jetpacks, or deploying drone strikes. Instead, it demands intelligence, strategic thinking, seeking cover, and unwavering team support. Personally, I prefer a more down-to-earth, authentic gaming experience, but everyone’s tastes can differ.
