As an old-timer who’s seen more than my fair share of raids in this game, I can tell you that the key to success is not just muscle memory or twitch reflexes, but knowing when to move, when to shoot, and when to scoot.

After a significant break, the Delta Force series made its return, introducing a new gameplay mode called “extraction shooter”. Essentially, this Operations extraction mode can be summarized as: “shoot, gather resources, and flee quickly.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’d say that the Operations mode in Delta Force offers an engaging blend of elements from the extraction shooter genre. It’s like a dash of the tactical looting system in Escape From Tarkov, combined with strategic planning dynamics, all packed into smaller maps and tailored to be more forgiving when it comes to gunplay.

Like a good extraction shooter, Operations has a Sisyphean gameplay loop.

At your home base, you meticulously prepare your gear, strategize your expedition, and subsequently venture forth to gather the maximum amount of treasure your sturdy limbs can transport.

Once you are back home, that loot goes towards upgrading your base and buying better gear…

After utilizing it for another exit, you head out once more to gather even more riches and acquire additional equipment. Essentially, this pattern repeats. The somewhat maniacal nature of this behavior is what makes it enjoyable; if extraction isn’t successful, all the hard work essentially counts for nothing.

The process of playing this game involves dividing operations into three distinct stages: getting ready for a mission, carrying out the mission itself, and managing the consequences. So, let’s make sure we’re well-prepared and jump right in!

Preparing for an Operations Raid

Not all good plans lead to good outcomes, but bad plans universally lead to bad ones.

As a passionate enthusiast, I’ve found that having a crystal-clear vision of my objectives and the strategies to reach them empowers me with the right resources for each task at hand.

Instead, a well-defined strategy gives you extra time to adjust it according to the specific circumstances of the moment, instead of always having to devise the whole operation spontaneously.

In the Delta Force, missions unfold across four distinct locations: Zero Dam, Layali Grove, Space City, and Brakkesh.

Space City serves as an advanced indoor spaceport, with outdoor zones featuring numerous bottlenecks.

Brakkesh

If you’ve completed your training at the “Call of Duty” Combat School, Brakkesh should feel comfortably familiar to you, being a typical Close Quarters Battle (CQB) map.

Zero Dam

As a gamer, I find myself immersed in the heart of Zero Dam, a mid-tier battleground. This arena boasts an impressive dam that overlooks the entire landscape. The map is cleverly sectioned off into pockets of buildings interspersed with rolling hills and winding rivers, offering ample space for a variety of gaming strategies.

Layali Grove

In simpler terms, the largest playfield in the game, Layali Grove, provides a wide array of strategic possibilities due to its numerous buildings with multiple viewpoints and expansive layout that encourages inventive paths for maneuvering during or around skirmishes.

Gearing Up

In the game Delta Force, the inventory management system resembles that of games like Escape From Tarkov or Gray Zone Warfare. Your equipment consists of a tactical vest, a backpack, pockets, and a secure storage container.

In the course of operations, if you perish, everything you’re carrying with you, such as weapons, body armor, helmets, and packs, will be left behind. However, items within your container are safe.

It could seem wise to reduce potential losses by choosing less powerful equipment for a battle, but typically, taking bigger risks increases your chances of surviving.

Raid Checklist
PrimaryFit for the map
SecondaryPistol, SMG or Shotgun
AmmunitionAt least four extra mags
Meds1+ heal, 1+ debuff
Helmet & VestBest available

While assault rifles are fit for all of the maps, you won’t have a great time sniping in Space City and Brakkesh. Similarly, shotguns and SMGs will be miserable in Layali Grove unless you bunker down in one of the buildings.

On smaller maps, you’ll often find yourself using more ammunition since there are limited opportunities to avoid combat encounters. Be aware of this when preparing your equipment.

Prepare to encounter frequent attacks, so always carry a couple of healing and cleansing items for yourself.

Instead of carrying an entire pharmacy during a raid, remember that each fully occupied slot as you depart from the base means one less opportunity to gather loot on the battlefield.

The Raid

Delta Force: Operations Mode Guide

Here’s a more conversational and less violent way to phrase it:

As soon as you’re created, make sure to head to a secure location to prevent being attacked immediately after spawning.

Once you make it through the initial 60 seconds, it’s time to head towards notable spots. Keep an ear out for gunshot noises to determine if your intended location might be under conflict.

As a gamer, sometimes I find myself in overcrowded, high-stakes zones that are just too intense. Instead of diving headfirst into the chaos, I prefer to bide my time and let the frenzy subside, or seek less congested areas where the rewards might be more substantial. It’s all about strategy and making smart moves!

Regardless of your location, remember to take note of the closest emergency exit. There will be times when everything seems to go wrong.

If you’re just not up for it, there’s nothing wrong with leaving the plunder behind and calling it an early day instead.

It’s quite appealing to take aim at anything that catches your eye, but remember that firing isn’t always effective in achieving your goal. Moreover, each shot you take significantly increases the likelihood of revealing your location to potential threats nearby.

In such situations, particularly if a conflict arises, try to allow the involved parties to settle their dispute without your intervention first. If necessary, intervene only after they’ve exhausted each other, and deal with the remaining party.

If you let someone go, keep in mind the golden principle: there’s always another one out there. Avoid being too hasty to claim a fallen comrade if you don’t wish for an immediate invitation to dinner.

After achieving your goal and ensuring safety, it’s wiser to move swiftly. Lulls rarely persist, so instead of lingering, it would be more prudent to gather your belongings and make a quick exit towards the rendezvous point.

Assuming you made it back in one piece, this is the time to enjoy your spoils.

You have the option to either sell your acquired items directly to traders or list them on the auction house after a raid. To list your items for sale, choose “List” under the auction house tab. The subsequent screen will display current prices, helping you make a wiser selling choice.

Prior to any sales, take a moment to review your Black Site and tasks list, to determine what’s valuable enough to hold onto. It can be quite disappointing when you later find out that something significant has been sold for a small amount.

If you were to pass away, that wouldn’t be something for you to worry about anymore. Get ready to jump back in and keep going. If you find yourself without funds, the game generously provides you with a repair voucher to ensure you don’t have to continue without any gear.

If this is a lot to digest, focus on the basics: loot, shoot, scoot. Good luck out there, operator.
