Deltarune: Exclusive Two-Joy-Con Mouse Feature Revealed for Nintendo Switch2

Summary

  • Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4 are slated to launch alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5.
  • The Switch 2 version of Deltarune will let players use the Joy-Con 2 controllers in mouse mode in a specific room.
  • Mouse controls on Switch 2 Joy-Cons were recently confirmed, potentially enabling easier ports of PC games.

In the future version of Deltarune on Nintendo Switch 2, there’ll be an exclusive feature: a special room where two Joy-Cons can be used as mice. This dual-mouse control is only applicable to this one room in Deltarune, but it offers Nintendo Switch 2 players an unique experience that other consoles don’t provide.

Approximately three and a half years following the initial PC launch of its second chapter, the release dates for Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4 were unveiled during Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct broadcast on April 2. While it will be accessible at launch on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PC, and the original Nintendo Switch, the episodic RPG’s initial four chapters are slated to debut simultaneously with the new console on June 5.

It’s a notable occasion for solo developer Toby Fox as it’s been confirmed that Deltarune is launching on Switch 2. In part of a Fangamer newsletter about the upcoming release of the next two chapters, he shared that the Switch 2 version of the game will incorporate a unique room where players can use mouse controls on two separate Joy-Cons at once. According to the newsletter, the control setup is demonstrated in the trailer unveiled during the Switch 2 Direct, which shows a quick segment around the 40-second mark featuring two curved lines of approaching sprites colliding with two other sprites labeled L and R. However, it’s yet to be determined which chapter this room will appear in. Fox has confirmed that this room will still be present in non-Switch 2 versions of the game, but the control schemes will vary significantly.

Deltarune Adds Special Dual-Mouse Feature for Switch 2

At the April 2 showcase, it was officially confirmed that the mouse controls on the Joy-Con 2 were another exciting feature. Alongside stronger magnetic attachment points and larger buttons compared to the original Switch’s Joy-Cons, these mouse controls have sparked much conversation. With their introduction, there is a buzz around the new console’s release as it may usher in a fresh wave of games featuring an unprecedented style.

Initially, Deltarune was exclusively launched for personal computers, debuting on Halloween 2018. Subsequently, it became available on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. The mouse functionality of the game could facilitate smoother ports of other PC games onto the potential Switch 2, as suggested by the developers of Civilization 7 who evaluated the Joy-Con 2 in early February.
