What Happens To Hashira By The Finale Of Demon Slayer?

Where Do Our Heroes End Up?

Initially, in Demon Slayer, the Hashiras are depicted as secondary characters appearing infrequently. However, as the series unfolds, their significance becomes increasingly apparent as they demonstrate remarkable abilities.

Several powerful demons, even those at the top, recognize the strength of the Hashiras as they surpass human capabilities with their incredible talents and may pose the greatest danger to the Twelve Kizuki and Muzan. Each Hashira plays a crucial part in the final battle.

The Flame Hashira, Kyojuro Rengoku

Rengoku is the very first Hashira who received a major spotlight and was one of the main characters in the Mugen Train arc. During their fight with the Lower-Rank One demon Enmu, Rengoku managed to save countless lives for which he is remembered to this date by fellow Hashiras and Demon Slayers.

Go ahead and live with your head held high! No matter how devastated you may be by your own weakness or uselessness…set your heart ablaze. Grit your teeth and look straight ahead – Rengoku

Though Akaza was ultimately killed during their battle, he put up a valiant fight that even his opponent acknowledged. Interestingly enough, traces of Akaza’s spirit can still be seen in one of his brother’s descendants, Tojuro Rengoku, following the conclusion of Demon Slayer.

The Insect Hashira, Shinobu Kocho

The weakest of the Hashiras never failed to show her genius at the most demanding and crucial of times. Her incredible knowledge of the wisteria poison made up for her lack of physical strength. And she proves this during the final battle when she comes across Doma the upper moon two.

The demon was also the one who murdered her elder sister, which is why she was determined to battle and vanquish him at all costs. Although she ultimately lost the fight against him, she played a crucial part in defeating the higher-ranking entity. She recognized that defeating Doma would not be an easy task, so she devised a plan to infuse her bloodstream with 37 kilograms of Wisteria poison as part of her strategy.

Shinobu knew that Doma had absorbed his victims, so when he did the same with Shinobu, the wisteria poison proved to be a key factor in winning against him, as the poison weakened him considerably. After that, Kanao and Inosuke were able to kill Doma, marking his defeat thanks to Shinobu’s sacrifice. In the after story, we see her and her sister’s reincarnations as students.

The Mist Hashira, Muichiro Tokito

Muichiro was considered one of the strongest and most talented Hashiras in the series despite being only 14 years old. In the finale, he faces the rank one demon Kokushibo who is also his ancestor. The Hashira awakens his Demon Slayer Mark and manages to damage the Moon Breathing swordsman to a great extent.

My job is to eliminate demons. That’s all that matters – Muichiro

However, Kokushibo ends up overpowering and defeating Muichiro. His death was one of the most heartbreaking ones as he was stabbed through the chest and lost both his arms and legs during this battle. Before his death, however, the damage he dealt with his Bright Red Nichirin Sword gave Sanemi and Gyomei the chance to defeat Kokushibo.

The Love Hashira, Mitsuri Kanroji

The most cheerful Hashira, Mitsuri, is no less than a ray of pure sunshine as she is constantly cheering up others around her with her bright personality. However, her fate is quite tragic as she dies during the battle with Muzan Kibutsuji.

In her final moments, however, she confessed her love to Obanai Iguro. The final chapter of the manga shows us the reincarnations of both Mitsuri and Iguro who are now running a bakery together.

The Serpent Hashira, Obanai Iguro

Much like Mitsuri, I found myself facing an untimely demise amidst the climactic clash with Muzan. Yet, in spite of my sight being stolen from me, I held my ground and fought valiantly to the very end.

You are unworthy of being a Hashira if you hesitate to put your life on the line -Obanai

In the concluding chapter of Demon Slayer, Mitsuri and Iguro are depicted spending their last days side by side, and subsequently, they’re shown to be living contentedly together following their rebirth.

The Stone Hashira, Gyomei Himejima

In this current era, Gyomei Himejima, renowned as the strongest Hashira, posed a significant threat to Muzan during the climactic battle. His stone-manipulating abilities played a crucial role in the fight, and it was his unwavering determination that ultimately allowed the Demon Slayers to vanquish Muzan. Gyomei acknowledged that entering this battle would inevitably result in his own demise.

He had to activate his Demon Slayer emblem, which meant he wouldn’t survive beyond his 25th birthday. Since he was already 27 years old, it suggested that his lifespan was limited. Nevertheless, he fought valiantly in the battle and sustained severe injuries that ultimately led to his demise.

The Sound Hashira, Tengen Uzui

The flamboyant Hashira who also defeated the upper moon 6 demon Gyutaro and Daki, retired after losing an eye and a hand during the battle. This is why he couldn’t participate in the final battle. However, despite his retirement, he offered to train the Demon Slayer corps and make them powerful enough to deal with the Demon King Muzan.

Although he faced numerous challenges in his life, his destiny wasn’t as tragic as some others. He eventually enjoyed a tranquil retirement with multiple wives by his side. In the concluding volume of the comic book series, we meet Tenma Uzui, who demonstrates exceptional skills in athletics.

The Wind Hashira, Sanemi Shinazugawa

After the harrowing Infinity Castle arc, I was among the scant few who survived. Despite managing to vanquish Kokushibo, I suffered heavily during that grueling battle. As the Wind Hashira, I lost two of my fingers in the fray, but nothing compared to the anguish of losing my own brother, Genya Shinazugawa. Tragically, he was cleaved in half by the Upper Rank One.

His demon-eating abilities couldn’t help him regenerate, which resulted in his tragic end. While Sanemi managed to live on the other hand, his survival might not mean much as he also developed the Demon Slayer mark during the battle which meant he would die by the age of 25. In the final chapter, however, a reincarnated Sanemi is seen as a police officer along with his brother Genya.

The Water Hashira Tomioka Giyuu

Giyuu Tomioka fights alongside Tanjiro to defeat Akaza and Muzan. In this battle, he ends up losing his arm but he remains steadfast and supports Tanjiro throughout the fight. Both Giyuu and Sanemi played a crucial role and stopped Muzan from fleeing from the battle before sunrise which resulted in his death.

He also developed the Demon Slayer mark, which meant he would die by his 25th birthday. His reincarnated version is shown to be a student, and we also see the reincarnation of Sabito along with him. The fate of the Hashiras is truly heartbreaking as even those who survived were left with terrible physical and emotional wounds which would be very hard to recover from. While the demon-free world will give some amount of peace to the surviving Hashiras Tengen, Sanemi and Tomioka, it is also worth noting that both the wind and water Hashira developed Demon Slayer marks so they won’t have that long to live. The final chapter, however,, does give us some peace of mind after seeing their reincarnations leading much better lives.
