The popular anime series “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” is gearing up to bring the thrilling Infinity Castle arc to life in an upcoming movie trilogy. Packed with unexpected mysteries and action-packed battles, this film series may shake up fans’ expectations, paving the way for a climactic confrontation against Muzan Kibutsuji.
However, prior to the Demon King’s confrontation, his chief lieutenant, Kokushibo, will encounter Muichiro Tokito of the Mist Hashira, alongside Sanemi, Genya, and Gyomei. Despite the fierce battle that ensues, spectators may be even more astonished when they discover a secret about Muchiro and the Upper Rank One that is far from expected.
The Strange Relationship Between Tokito and Kokushibo
Mist Hashira is Kokushibo’s Descendant
Mist Muichiro Tokito, the Hashira, has always been a mystery. His exceptional ability and unmatched prowess set him apart from his fellow comrades. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to suggest that he might well be one of the most gifted demon slayers ever known. Following the tragic loss of his twin brother in a brutal demon attack, Tokito lost all his memories, but the agony remained hidden deep within him. He channeled his heartache into rigorous training instead.
Regarding my purpose in life, I am fully aware of it. I was born to find happiness. I found happiness when we were together as a family. There were difficult and painful times when I was alone, but then… I made friends and had good experiences, which allowed me to smile again. There were numerous instances where I believed I was happy. Was that not enough? I never looked away or ran from anything. I have no regrets about risking my life for my companions. This is the story of Muichiro Tokito.
In the recent past, I bore witness to Tokito’s exceptional abilities being acknowledged, swiftly elevating him to one of the finest among his generation, as he assumed the role of a Hashira. However impressive his skills may be, as he prepares to confront Kokushibo, the Upper Moon One, the odds remain heavily in his adversary’s favor. You see, this high-ranking member of the Twelve Kizuki was not only a formidable swordsman but also one of the first demon slayers to bear the mark. Even after metamorphosing into a demon, he retains the ability to navigate the Transparent World and continues to employ Moon Breathing in combat against his opponents.
In the case of Kokushibo and Muichiro, it’s not just their dedication and hard work that they share in common; it seems their exceptional talent might be inherited, given their familial ties. When the Upper Rank One encounters Tokito within the Infinity Castle, a quick skirmish ensues between them. However, during this encounter, Kokushibo discovers an intriguing fact: they are blood relatives, with Muichiro being his descendant.
It’s not clear exactly how many generations apart the two characters are, but considering factors like lifespan, marriage age, and socioeconomic conditions during their eras, it appears they might be separated by about 10 to 12 generations. This would mean that Muichiro is connected to not one, but two of the most influential figures in history – Kokushibo and Yoriichi.
The Influence of Tokito’s Relationship With Kokushibo
Muichiro’s Talent Might Be a Gift of His Ancestors
Kokushibo, hailing from the Sengoku period, was an exceptionally skilled swordsman, though his illustrious brother often stole the limelight. If he had stayed with the Demon Slayer Corps, he might have accomplished great feats. It seems that Muichiro Tokito benefited greatly from having Yoriichi as a forebearer.
It’s quite extraordinary that these two brothers, known for initiating the golden era of demon slayers, developing breathing techniques, and popularizing the Demon Slayer Mark, are direct descendants of Tokito. Remarkably, Tokito became a Hashira in merely two months after grabbing a sword, making him the first Hashira of his generation to manifest a mark. Normally, it takes years for a demon slayer to be recognized as a Hashira, so Muichiro’s accomplishment is truly exceptional.
What makes it particularly remarkable is that he achieved this feat at an age when most people struggle to even approach it. While Muichiro’s dedication and effort are undeniably significant, they don’t entirely account for the rapid progress he made, especially given his young years. It appears that he may have had a bit of luck on his side, as his ancestors were also skilled swordsmen. It wouldn’t be unreasonable to suggest that his exceptional skill is a natural talent that has been passed down to a select few in his family lineage.
If I don’t stop your bleeding, humans are so fragile that they can easily die from loss of blood. But if you do die, whether it’s because you bleed to death or because his lordship disapproves of you, then in the end, death was always a possibility for you. In other words, if you die under those circumstances, you would be no more exceptional than any other person. Do you agree with this? ~ Kokushibo to Muichiro
This version aims to make the statement easier to understand while preserving its original meaning and tone as much as possible. The use of simpler language and clearer sentence structure should help readers better grasp the intended message, even if they are not familiar with the original source material.
Although the manga doesn’t explicitly say so, it seems that his superhuman skills at such a young age may have a credible explanation. As Kokushibo and Muichiro engage in combat within the Infinity Castle, their battle will not be ordinary; instead, it could etch their names into history, signifying the conclusion of an epoch.
The initial part of the Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle trilogy is set to debut in the U.S. on September 12, 2025.
