Summary
- Demon Slayer will adapt Final Battle arc in 3 movies starting July 18, 2025.
- Movies may turn into TV seasons later to reach wider audience.
- Adapting to TV series could be a smart move for profit and fan enjoyment.
The anime “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” plans to portray the climactic moments of the story in an impressive manner through a trilogy of films. Though known as “Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle“, it’s likely that this penultimate arc will also depict the events from the final “Sunrise Countdown” arc. Both storylines are part of the broader “Final Battle” arc.
Initially, the premiere of the first film is set for July 18, 2025, in Japan, followed by a release on September 12 in the U.S. It’s worth noting that there are hints suggesting the possibility of these movies being adapted into anime series at some point instead.
What Happens in the Final Battle Arc?

This section contains spoilers for Demon Slayer‘s Final Battle arc.
During the thrilling Final Battle saga, I, an avid fan, found myself immersed in the daring assault on Muzan’s fortress, the Infinity Castle. We, the Demon Slayers, stormed its halls, engaging in fierce battles against the remaining Demons to finally confront him. When Muzan was cornered, he cleverly slipped away just as the castle crumbled behind him. Naturally, we didn’t let him escape that easily; the rest of us pursued him relentlessly. That, my friends, is the Infinity Castle Arc!
In Sunrise Countdown, Tanjiro confronts Muzan. Although the Demon Slayers manage to vanquish him, Nezuko transforms back into a human. However, as his final act, Muzan converts Tanjiro into the mightiest Demon yet, the Demon King Tanjiro. With the Demon Slayer corps nearing depletion, they brace themselves for battle against Tanjiro. Meanwhile, Nezuko pleads with him not to succumb to Muzan’s influence. Ultimately, a cure is found in the form of medicine, and Tanjiro reverts back into a human.
Turning Movies into TV Series Is Not Unusual in the Anime Industry
It’s not unusual for films to be adapted into TV series. Take the remake of Space Battleship Yamato, or Star Blazers, as an example: typically, these are initially produced as movies and later broadcast as regular TV shows. This is why you can find Space Battleship Yamato 2199 and Space Battleship Yamato 2202 on streaming platforms as 26-episode series each, despite originally being released as movies in Japan.
Previously, the same thing occurred with “Demon Slayer”. Initially, “Mugen Train” was presented as a film, but it was subsequently adapted into a television anime series. This transformation was done to ensure that viewers could enjoy it prior to the premiere of the Entertainment District Arc on TV.
It Also Depends on Sunrise Countdown’s Adaptation
The plan to convert the Infinity Castle arc into a movie trilogy is partly driven by the hope that it will become an extraordinary and unparalleled success, capable of outperforming the earnings of Mugen Train at the box office.
If the Sunrise Countdown arc isn’t part of the trilogy and gets turned into a TV show instead, it’s crucial to keep the TV viewers in the loop about the story. So, they might decide to turn the trilogy into a TV anime as well.
It Would Allow Even More People to Watch the Movies
Demon Slayer has achieved an unprecedented level of success, unlike many other franchises. Starting from the Entertainment District arc, the anime airs every Sunday evening on TV Fuji during the peak hours of Japanese weekend television, attracting a large viewership. This underscores the strong fanbase Demon Slayer has built and its growing presence on Japanese television.
Even if the films generate massive revenue at the box office, many viewers prefer to re-watch the series on television – particularly when additional content is available, such as the anime “Mugen Train.” If it’s true that movies will be released every two years, a TV series could act as a preparation for the next film, making it more accessible to a wider audience. The TV broadcast might adhere to a two-year schedule between movie releases, providing viewers with an opportunity to catch up before the next installment.
- 2025: Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Movie 1
- 2026: Demon Slayer Infinity Castle Season 1 (movie recap + bonus scenes)
- 2027: Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Movie 2
- 2028: Demon Slayer Infinity Castle Season 2 (movie recap + bonus scenes)
- 2029: 2027: Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Movie 3 (final arc?)
- 2030: Demon Slayer Infinity Castle Season 3 (movie recap + bonus scenes)
An alternative approach could be compiling the three films into a single animated TV series once they have been premiered in cinemas.
Viewed through a commercial lens, transforming the Infinity Castle into anime seasons might be a shrewd move, enabling the production crew to reap even greater profits from the series. On the other hand, for fans, this would mean wider access to the show and ardent supporters would delight in additional content that could be re-watched.
The potential issue lies in the possibility that certain enthusiasts might perceive this tactic as a breach of trust, given that they went out of their way to watch the film in cinemas. They may feel that the creators are overexploiting the series for profit.
You can stream “Demon Slayer” on Crunchyroll, offering both subtitled and dubbed versions in multiple languages. Additionally, it’s available on Netflix in various regions around the world.
