Fervent viewers claim they’ve spotted some deceased characters from Demon Slayer, implying these figures will continue their presence in the Infinity Castle. They seem to have an essential part to play in the climactic battle between the virtuous and sinister forces.
This article focuses on deceased characters who have been verified as making an appearance in the initial Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle film.
Kanae Kocho
Kanae Kocho Pushes Shinobu to Her Limits

- Cause of Death: Severe Injuries Inflicted By Upper Moon Two Doma
In simpler terms, Kanae Kocho – who was famously known for her beauty – was actually the deceased Flower Hashira. Tragically, she faced off against Doma, one of the upper moons, resulting in her untimely death. Notably, Shinobu Kocho, the Insect Hashira, is Kanae’s biological sister. Her tragic demise sparked a thirst for vengeance within Shinobu. Before she passed away, Kanae managed to give Shinobu a detailed description of Doma, providing her with a clear objective in her mission as a demon slayer, even though Shinobu wished otherwise for her sister’s safety.
Pull yourself together. I won’t allow you to cry. Stand up.—Kanae to Shinobu
In the skirmish between Shinobu and Doma within the Infinity Castle, Kanae Kocho unexpectedly emerges before her sister. Dressed in her Hashira attire, she appears as if she’s still very much alive, having not departed from this world. Unlike their previous encounters, Kanae now urges Shinobu to complete her mission-to vanquish and eliminate Doma without mercy. In this critical moment, Kanae serves as a source of inspiration for Shinobu, spurring her on to never waver or surrender.
Kagaya Ubuyashiki
Kagaya Motivates His Successor Kiriya Ubuyashiki

- Cause of Death: Unalived Himself By Explosion
Kagaya Ubuyashiki’s selfless act in the climax of the Hashira Training Arc had significant consequences. His passing brought the Hashira closer together, and it’s worth noting that he also hindered Muzan’s rapid healing by collaborating with Lady Tamayo, Gyomei Himejima, Yushiro, his spouse, and their two children. Ultimately, his death served as a powerful catalyst for all demon slayers in the decisive battle against Muzan and his legion of demons.
I know what eternity is. Eternity is human feeling.—Kagaya to Muzan
As the Hashira and the main group battle within Infinity Castle, Kiriya Ubuyashiki’s predecessor, Kagaya Ubuyashiki, manifests before him. Under the weight of this sudden apparition, Kiriya experiences a sense of immense pressure that reveals the layout and design of the Infinity Castle. It is only after Kagaya’s appearance that Kiriya feels this pressure ease. Kagaya offers words of encouragement to Kiriya, reminding him of his responsibilities and the advancements they have made in their battle against Muzan.
Jigoro Kuwajima
Jigoro Appears in Zenitsu’s Dream

- Cause of Death: Seppuku
Zenitsu Agatsuma deeply mourns Jigoro Kuwajima’s absence, while Kaigaku, another student, chose a drastic change in life and transformed into a demon. This decision led Jigoro to perform seppuku, effectively ending his own life as a way of accepting the consequences for Kaigaku’s actions. Zenitsu was left troubled by both the loss of his master and the confrontation with Kaigaku within the Infinity Castle.
Zenitsu, you are my pride and joy.—Jigoro to Zenitsu
At a later stage, Jigoro confronts Zenitsu in what appears to be a dream, vision, or spiritual encounter, with Jigoro positioned on the opposite side of a river or lake. Here, Jigoro is found listening attentively as Zenitsu apologizes. Rather than harboring resentment towards Zenitsu for his inability to save Kaigaku, a visibly emotional Jigoro expresses his pride and joy in Zenitsu instead.
Koyuki, Keizo, and Akaza’s Father
Akaza Remembers Them Before It’s Too Late

- Cause of Death: Akaza’s Father (Hanging), Keizo and Koyuki (Poison)
In the Mugen Train film, spectators greatly disliked Akaza for killing Rengoku Kyojuro; however, they sympathized with him in the Infinity Castle movie. During his human life, his universe primarily consisted of three individuals: an undisclosed father, the deceased fiancée Koyuki, and the late master Keizo. He lived to safeguard these individuals, yearning for a kinder world than the one that had been unkind to him.
Welcome home, my love.—Koyuki to Akaza
Despite fans knowing that Akaza’s loved ones cannot be saved, they still made their way back to the Infinity Castle, wishing to remind Akaza of cherished human memories he had lost following his encounter with Muzan. During the battle against Tanjiro and Giyu, Akaza’s human memories started resurfacing in him, recalling the times spent with his loved ones as Hakuji. Eventually, they all escorted Akaza into the afterlife, releasing him from Muzan’s grasp and the burdens of his transgressions.
Rengoku Kyojuro
Tanjiro and Shinjuro Honor Rengoku Kyojuro’s Memory

- Cause of Death: Killed by Upper Moon Three, Akaza
Without a doubt, revisiting Infinity Castle’s first film wouldn’t seem whole without the presence of the valiant Rengoku Kyojuro, the Flame Hashira who made the ultimate sacrifice in the Mugen Train adventure. He bravely fell battling Akaza to shield Tanjiro and his companions, leaving a profound impact on them, especially his son, Shinjuro. His heroic demise struck not only Tanjiro’s heart but also that of his father deeply.
I will fight to protect people from demons.—Rengoku Kyojuro
In the storyline of Infinity Castle, Shinjuro recollects Kyojuro’s selfless act, vowing that he too would lay down his life for Kiriya Ubuyashiki, just as his son did. Meanwhile, Tanjiro is reminded of Kyojuro following Akaza’s disrespectful remarks about him, which infuriated Tanjiro profoundly. In the ensuing battle, Tanjiro unleashed all his strength to eventually seek vengeance for Kyojuro.
Tanjuro Kamado
Tanjiro Remembers Tanjuro’s Bear Encounter

- Cause of Death: Illness
For those unaware, Tanjuro Kamado was the father of Tanjiro and Nezuko. Tragically, he passed away before Muzan Kibutsuji attacked their family in the mountains, leaving only his children alive. Due to his illness, he eventually succumbed to it. Even though he departed early in the Demon Slayer storyline, his influence continues through Tanjiro and Nezuko.
Never give up thinking things through.—Tanjuro to Tanjiro
In the confrontation between Tanjiro and Akaza, a recollection of Tanjuro emerges, triggering a crucial life lesson his father had imparted. This happened one cold, wintry night when Tanjuro awakened Tanjiro to demonstrate the secrets of the Transparent World. Swinging an axe, he swiftly decapitated a stray bear that encroached their home. This vivid display of bravery and skill allowed Tanjiro to surpass Akaza, with assistance from Giyu, ultimately ending the battle by beheading him.
