As a seasoned fan of Demon Slayer, I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing some truly breathtaking and powerful techniques wielded by its characters. Demon Slayer is easily one of the biggest and most popular shonen series of all time, which is certainly surprising given how short the series has been. The amazing adaptation of this series by Ufotable has certainly lit the spark for this series’ popularity, with the movie Demon Slayer: Mugen Train establishing itself as the highest-grossing Japanese movie of all time.
In “Demon Slayer,” the engaging combat is largely due to the unique breathing methods used by each notable Demon Slayer. These powerful techniques, which are the strongest in the series, grant their users incredible abilities that can challenge even the most formidable demons.
23 *Water Breathing – Ninth Form: Splashing Water Flow, Turbulent
Sakonji Urokodaki, Giyu Tomioka, Tanjiro Kamado
Water Breathing is one of the most beautiful and strongest breathing styles in Demon Slayer, with Tanjiro relying on a style that didn’t naturally suit him to somehow defeat a suite of powerful demons, including a former Lower Rank who did everything possible to take him out. Kyogai was no joke, and Tanjiro had to whip out some of his toughest techniques to ensure that this demon could be stopped for good.
Despite the spinning room causing instability under his feet, Tanjiro opted for the Ninth Water Breathing Technique. This form focused on continuous motion, enabling him to turn Kyogai’s unsteadiness into an advantage. He swiftly maneuvered around Kyogai’s assaults and eventually landed a decisive blow, bringing the demon to a permanent halt.
22 *Moon Breathing – Ninth Form: Waning Moonswaths
Kokushibo/Michikatsu Tsugikuni
In “Demon Slayer,” fans are in for a treat as they witness Kokushibo employ his Moon Breathing technique. This is an intriguing development, considering his past as Yoriichi’s sibling. Unable to comprehend the vast difference in power between him and his weakened brother, he was driven to darkness, transforming into a demon with the sole intention of surpassing his brother’s strength and influence.
Kokushibo possesses one of the most powerful breathing techniques in Demon Slayer. His demon abilities grant him real crescent moon blades, making his attacks even more formidable. An illustration of this is his Ninth Form technique, which launches numerous sword strikes that can be quite a challenge for any combatant to handle.
21 *Hinokami Kagura – Fake Rainbow
Yoriichi Tsugikuni, Tanjiro Kamado
Hinokami Kagura is among the most powerful breathing techniques in Demon Slayer, as evidenced by Muzan’s alarming response to Tanjiro’s presence. The Demon King, who had never experienced genuine fear before, was nearly defeated by Yoriichi’s attempt to eliminate his five vital points in a single blow, despite his advanced age. Consequently, every Sun Breathing technique is sure to be an exciting spectacle for fans of the series.
In the skilled hands of a user, even a seemingly basic move like creating a false rainbow, as seen in “Demon Slayer,” can be malicious. This maneuver leaves an illusionary afterimage, confusing enemies and providing an opportunity for a surprise attack. With split-second decisions determining battle outcomes, taking advantage of an unsuspecting demon with this technique could lead to their swift defeat.
20 Moon Breathing — Fourteenth Form: Catastrophe, Tenman Crescent Moon
Kokushibo/Michikatsu Tsugikuni
Kokushibo is among the most wicked antagonists in the story, and his power is evidently extraordinary. This is demonstrated through his Moon Breathing method, an impressive technique that becomes even more formidable due to his demonic capabilities.
this Fourteenth method holds significant power on its own, generating a destructive whirlpool with a larger, menacing weapon. Its reach is extensive and capable of annihilating anything it encounters.
19 Hinokami Kagura — Flame Dance
Yoriichi Tsugikuni, Tanjiro Kamado
Hinokami Kagura, or Sun Breathing, stands out as the most powerful Breathing Technique in the series with a significant advantage. This technique is noteworthy because it served as the foundation for every other Breathing Style presented in the story.
The Flame Dance is an effective move in Tanjiro’s arsenal using his Breathing Technique. It involves a swift combination of both vertical and horizontal slashes.
18 Thunder Breathing — First Form: Thunderclap and Flash – Godspeed
Jigoro Kuwajima, Zenitsu Agatsuma
Zenitsu is a cherished character in the storyline, contrary to his comically-relieving demeanor. In truth, he’s an accomplished prodigy who has perfected the initial form of Thunder Breathing. He can skillfully employ this ability to confront even the most formidable adversaries.
As a dedicated fan of Zenitsu, I can tell you that his First Form is a skill he’s invested significant time and effort into perfecting. With just a glimpse of an opportunity, he can utilize this technique to leave most adversaries utterly annihilated. The astonishingly swift and lethal variation of this ability, which he calls Godspeed, leaves even less time for opponents to react.
17 Beast Breathing — Tenth Fang: Whirling Fangs
Inosuke Hashibira
I can’t help but be amused by Inosuke, a character with an enigmatic hidden face, yet undeniably attractive. His unique combat style, Beast Breathing, transforms him into a wild and unpredictable beast-swordsman, leaving a trail of sliced and diced obstacles in his wake.
As a fan, I’d describe it like this: When this fighting style unveils its unique moves, they go by the name of Fangs. Each Fang is impressive in its own right. The Tenth Fang, Whirling Fangs, functions as an attack that combines offense and defense in one fluid motion. As I spin around at high speed, any ranged projectiles are deflected, keeping me safe. Meanwhile, the unfortunate demons who dare approach me get cut down by my swift blades.
16 Moon Breathing — Tenth Form: Drilling Slashes, Moon Through Bamboo Leaves
Kokushibo/Michikatsu Tsugikuni
Anime enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the appearance of Moon Breathing’s unique abilities, particularly the Drilling Slashes: Moon Throught Bamboo Leaves technique, which leaves fans in awe with its stunning execution.
Kokushibo’s sword has the ability to expand, amplifying the power behind his strikes. This enlarged form enables him to unleash a devastating triple-slash attack. The reach of this move is immense and can effortlessly wipe out any adversary unfortunate enough to be within its path.
15 Love Breathing — Sixth Form: Cat-Legged Winds of Love
Mitsuri Kanroji
The Love Pillar is undeniably an exceptional character in the series, given the intrigue surrounding the workings of Love Respiration and its potential role in combat.
In the manga, Mitsuri’s Love Breathing ability has been fully demonstrated. Among all her forms, the sixth one is the strongest. It unleashes a swift, prolonged slicing attack that inflicts immense damage in the span of an eye blink.
14 Serpent Breathing — Fifth Form: Slithering Serpent
Obanai Iguro
Due to a snake’s remarkable flexibility, it’s not surprising that the technique of Serpent Breathing includes such movements. And that’s exactly what Obanai Iguro achieves with his distinctive sword.
As a gamer, I find the Fifth Form of Serpent Breathing to be an incredibly effective technique. When facing a group of adversaries, it allows me to effortlessly take them down one after another, making crowd control a breeze. And when tackling solitary enemies, its unique ability to curve my sword creates surprising new angles for attack, ensuring that no foe stands a chance against me.
13 Stone Breathing — Fifth Form: Arcs of Justice
Gyomei Himejima
As a dedicated gamer of Demon Slayer, I can tell you that Stone Breathing is known for packing a powerful punch. But what truly sets it apart isn’t just its techniques; it’s the immense strength behind each breath.
As a devoted follower of this martial art, I can tell you that the most potent application of its Fifth Form breathing technique involves wielding the flail and axe in harmonious succession. The sequence commences with a mighty axe strike, which lays the groundwork for the subsequent forceful impact of the flail. This dynamic duo is capable of leaving most adversaries shattered.
12 Hinokami Kagura — Dragon Sun Halo Head Dance
Yoriichi Tsugikuni, Tanjiro Kamado
Tanjiro’s Sun Breathing is set to bring significant shifts to “Demon Slayer,” enabling him to confront the strongest demons head-on. Fans have relished the flavor of Sun Breathing presented in the series, and manga enthusiasts eagerly anticipate witnessing its most formidable techniques unfold.
The “Dragon Sun Halo Head Dance” is an impressive move where the attack assumes the form of a dragon, annihilating most adversaries as it advances.
11 Water Breathing — Tenth Form: Constant Flux
Tanjiro Kamado, Giyu Tomioka
As a devoted gamer immersed in the captivating world of Demon Slayer, I can’t help but be mesmerized by the visually stunning Water Breathing techniques. Witnessing Tanjiro effortlessly unleash an array of powerful moves from this breathing style during his intense battles against formidable adversaries has left me in awe and created some of my favorite moments from the first season.
In the heat of my battle with Rui, I unleashed the strongest Water Breathing technique I knew. Using the graceful motions of Constant Flux, I sliced through his assaults and kept a perfect equilibrium between offense and defense. It was an awe-inspiring maneuver that Tomioka had brilliantly demonstrated in the manga as well.
10 Flower Breathing — Final Form: Equinoctial Vermilion Eye
Kanao Tsuyuri
Kanao hasn’t demonstrated her full strength in the anime yet, but she’s already made a significant impact through her Flower Breathing method. This technique combines both breathtaking beauty and immense power.
As a devoted admirer of Kanao’s Flower Breathing abilities, I must confess that her ultimate technique, Equinoctial Vermilion Eye, leaves me utterly captivated. This extraordinary skill grants its wielder the power to almost halt time by straining their eyes to the utmost limit. Yet, beware! Overindulging in this technique’s potent allure can lead to severe consequences. My beloved Kanao learned this lesson the hard way during her confrontation with Doma; she was left blind in one eye as a chilling reminder of its destructive potential.
9 Flame Breathing — Ninth Form: Rengoku
Kyojuro Rengoku
Kyojuro Rengoku was an exceptional Demon Slayer and rightfully earned the esteemed position of Flame Hashira. His lively and upbeat disposition added poignancy to the heart-wrenching scene of his death at Akaza’s hands.
The Flame Breathing method of his was an impressive sight to behold, especially when using his ninth form, Rengoku, a unique ability of the Rengoku lineage. Regrettably, despite putting up a valiant fight, his powers fell short against Akaza, who ultimately emerged victorious during their intense clash.
8 Thunder Breathing — Seventh Form: Honoikazuchi No Kami
Zenitsu Agatsuma
Zenitsu appears doomed for defeat, but surprisingly, it’s his subconscious that takes charge instead. In these moments, he unleashes the initial form of Thunder Breathing with an extraordinary power, annihilating any adversary in its way.
Zenitsu’s unique ability, which he named Honoikazuchi no Kami, is incredibly powerful and uses such immense speed that his haori gets torn apart during usage.
7 Mist Breathing — Seventh Form: Obscuring Clouds
Muichiro Tokito
Muichiro Tokito, the Mist Hashira, created an extraordinary move called Obscuring Clouds. When used effectively, this final Mist Breathing skill creates a confusing illusion that can be lethal in combat. Enemies will be left perplexed and destroyed by its execution.
Using his unique ability, Muichiro virtually vanishes in a swirl of self-generated mist. Deceitfully swift, the Mist Hashira deceives foes into believing his pace is sluggish. In truth, he’s merely moving at an astonishing speed beyond their capacity to detect.
6 Water Breathing — Eleventh Form: Dead Calm
Giyu Tomioka
Observing Giyu execute his personally developed Water Breathing method against Rui in the anime presented an awe-inspiring scene, revealing the impressive capabilities of the Water Hashira to the audience.
It’s quite a challenge to adopt the tranquility of still water within oneself, but Giyu accomplishes this with remarkable grace and effectiveness, making him an exceptionally formidable Demon Slayer.
5 Insect Breathing — Dance of the Centipede: Hundred-Legged Zigzag
Shinobu Kocho
In the captivating world of “Demon Slayer,” Shinobu Kocho stands out as one of the most formidable Hashira with an impressive array of powers. Her ultimate attack, Dance of the Centipede: Hundred-Legged Zigzag, is truly a sight to behold. It has Shinobu launching herself at full force to confuse the enemy with her erratic running before putting all her effort into a stab that is so powerful that it could even destroy a wooden bridge, as per Doma’s observations.
4 Moon Breathing — Sixteenth Form: Moonbow – Half Moon
Kokushibo/Michikatsu Tsugikuni
Kokushibo’s power among demons is already significant, but what sets him apart is his mastery of the Moon Breathing technique in combat. This ability transforms even the top-ranked member of the Twelve Kizuki into a formidable and terrifying adversary on the battlefield.
I, as a gamer, can tell you that during the sixteenth form of my character’s Moon Breathing technique, called Moonbow – Half Moon, things get really intense. With each descending crescent slash comes the devastating power of my Blood Demon Art. The impact is far-reaching, leaving behind craters where they once stood. It’s a truly petrifying ability that sets my character apart from most in the game series.
