Demon Slayer: This Demon Could Potentially Be the Final Threat for Humanity, and Its Not Muzan

The following contains spoilers from the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga and anime.

I’ve found myself immersed in a captivating narrative titled “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba,” which revolves around themes of vengeance, forgiveness, and affection. It chronicles an age-old battle between righteousness and wickedness that dates back to the Heian Era, when Muzan transformed into a demon.

When Kibutsuji understood the immense power he could possibly command if he overcame the sun, he dedicated his life to conquering his one and only weakness. Yet, no matter how hard he tried, immortality remained out of reach for him. As the battle between Muzan and the Demon Slayer Corps reached its climax, he reluctantly accepted his demise, but in his dying moments, he made a final attempt to realize his malevolent ambition. This choice led to the creation of someone with power surpassing that of the Demon King himself.

The Last Demon to Have Ever Lived

A Demon Who Conquered the Sun and Had Muzan’s Powers

In the Sunrise Countdown storyline, the Demon Slayer Team successfully trapped Muzan Kibutsuji following the elimination of all Upper Moons. With no allies left, the Demon King found himself in a vulnerable position, compelled to engage in combat solo. With his back against the proverbial wall and cornered, Kibutsuji exerted every ounce of his power, transforming into an abominable creature capable of battling skilled swordsmen single-handedly.

In my stead, Tanjiro Kamado, it is your destiny to overpower the sun’s radiance and reign as the supreme demon – the Demon King! This is due to your bond with Nezuko Kamado, your sister, as you share her blood. I assure you that you will not perish. I have faith in this. Help me fulfill my dream… Tanjiro. In other words, you must annihilate… the Demon Slayer Organization! ~ Muzan Kibutsuji

The warriors of the Demon Slayer Group risked everything to vanquish Muzan. Eventually, their persistence paid off when Kibutsuji found himself overwhelmed by constant assaults from numerous enemies, many of whom carried mystical amulets.

In my fervor, as I sensed the inescapable approach of my own demise, the wise Kagaya Ubuyashiki’s words echoed in my mind – that every living being must yield to death eventually, but emotions endure eternally. The Demon King within me acknowledged a sobering truth: My arch-nemesis had been right all along. Seizing upon Kagaya’s wisdom as a beacon of hope, I channeled my powers and feelings into the very veins of Tanjiro, who teetered precariously on the edge of life just beside me.

Kibutsuji held the conviction that Demon Tanjiro possessed the potential to dominate the sun, similar to his sister, and given his adoption of Yoriichi’s breathing technique, he would become the most powerful entity ever known. Indeed, he wasn’t wrong about certain aspects as Tanjiro miraculously healed from his near-fatal wounds. Yet, it was no longer accurate to label him as human.

In the course of events, Tanjiro Kamado underwent a metamorphosis into a demon, following his encounter with Muzan’s powers and blood. As Kibutsuji had anticipated, this transformation rendered him invulnerable to sunlight and bestowed upon him abilities that surpassed the wildest imaginations of most demons. Thus, he was crowned as the Demon King, Tanjiro Kamado, a formidable being with no known weaknesses, capable of potentially dominating the world. However, the fate that ultimately befall him remains to be seen.

The King of Demons Never Sat On His Throne

Why Did Demon Tanjiro Fail to Fulfill Muzan’s Sinister Dreams?

During his transformation, Demon Tanjiro’s strength was immense, yet he struggled to master his newfound abilities. It’s debatable if he fully grasped the peril he represented. Had it not been for intervention, the King of Demons could have prolonged his existence indefinitely, aligning with Muzan’s malevolent aspirations.

However, the Demon Slayer Corps had fought tirelessly in a previous battle, leaving them drained and unable to face an adversary stronger than the Demon King. The Sunrise Countdown arc will unveil the tension-filled instances when Tanjiro Kamado, the Demon King himself, tested his fellow corps members and unfolded the course of their struggle.

In simpler terms, some intense, powerful scenes throughout the series are likely to stand out vividly in people’s memories. These moments won’t just offer a fulfilling conclusion for fans but also underscore the selfless acts and strong connections among the members of the Demon Slayer Corps.

The initial part of the Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle trilogy will hit U.S. cinemas on September 12, 2025.
