Demon Slayer is now a hugely popular and well-known anime series. It first gained major attention with its initial anime season in 2019, but its popularity exploded after the release of the movie *Demon Slayer: The Mugen Train*. That film was a massive success, becoming the highest-grossing movie ever in Japan. However, after five years, *The Mugen Train* was recently overtaken by another film: *Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 Akaza’s Return*. This new movie proves that Demon Slayer’s success continues to grow, and it seems only future Demon Slayer movies have the potential to beat its previous records.
Demon Slayer: Mugen Train Lost Its Number 1 Spot at The Box Office
- Mugen Train Was Surpassed by Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle
- Demon Slayer Holds Both Number 1 and 2 Spots
I was absolutely blown away when *Demon Slayer: Mugen Train* first came out in 2020! What really surprised me was that it actually followed one of the manga arcs – the Mugen Train arc, of course. You don’t often see anime movies stay true to the source material like that! It quickly became a massive hit in Japan, and unbelievably, it actually broke the box office record previously held by *Spirited Away* for almost twenty years! *Demon Slayer: Mugen Train* was a true phenomenon, not just in Japan but all over the world. But after five incredible years, it’s finally been surpassed – Japan has a new number one movie now!
Those with strength should help and defend those who are vulnerable. As they gain strength, they too can then protect others who need it. This is simply how the world works. – Tanjiro
Surprisingly, the film was outperformed by another installment in its own series: *Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1-Akaza’s Return*. This highlights that *Demon Slayer’s* biggest rival has consistently been itself.

Rengoku never gave up! He saved everyone and fought until the very end, protecting them all. You’re the one who failed-Rengoku is the true victor!
Can Any Movie Surpass Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 Akaza’s Return?
Demon Slayer Infinity Castle Part 2 and Part 3 Have A Shot At Doing That

Now that *Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1-Akaza’s Return* is the top movie in Japan, people are asking what could possibly take its place. And there is a contender!
The first part of the *Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle* arc, focusing on Akaza’s return, is a significant installment, but it’s only the beginning of a three-part story. This arc promises to be the most intense yet, and things are quickly going to escalate.
You’ve got it all wrong, Tanjiro. I don’t hate people, I hate weakness. I can’t stand those who are feeble. It’s simply how the world works – the weak are meant to be eliminated. – Akaza to Tanjiro
Whether the second part will be better than the first is up for discussion, but it’s certainly possible. However, most people expect the third part to become the most popular in Japan when it’s released, mainly because it will finally show the highly anticipated fight against Muzan.

If you’re eager to continue the *Demon Slayer* story, the latest arc, *Infinity Castle*, is currently playing in theaters. You can also read the manga on Manga Plus. There are currently four seasons of the *Demon Slayer* anime available on Crunchyroll. However, the rest of the story will be released as movies, so fans will need to see them in theaters (depending on where they live).
