As a dedicated cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that “Dexter: Resurrection” is now in production, with Michael C. Hall reprising his role and joining forces once more with Jack Alcott, David Zayas, and James Remar. The air is buzzing with anticipation over who else might make a comeback. Intriguingly, Desmond Harrington, who brought Detective Joey Quinn to life, has hinted in a recent interview that he might be joining the gang again for this sequel series.

In the original Dexter series, Harrington portrayed the character Quinn for six seasons, who was among those who questioned whether Dexter truly was who he claimed to be. Fans have often speculated that Quinn may have been aware of Dexter’s true nature but chose to overlook it for different reasons. If Quinn makes a comeback in Resurrection, some of these questions could potentially be resolved.

Joey Quinn’s Return Was Teased During Desmond Harrington’s Appearance On A Dexter: Original Sin Companion Show

The Dexter: Original Sin series on Paramount+ with Showtime has been a major success, and this is partially due to the excellent marketing efforts surrounding the show. Following each episode, there’s a spin-off program called Final Cut, hosted by Jamie Chung from New Blood who portrayed the captivating true crime podcaster Molly Park. Each installment invites a special guest to analyze the most recent episode of the Dexter prequel series. This week, Desmond Harrington (also known as Joey Quinn) was a guest to discuss the key points from Dexter: Original Sin episode 8.

Towards the end of the show, Jamie Chung inquired from Harrington whether he would feature in the subsequent series titled “Resurrection:“.

I will not say a f**king word.

Chung persistently questioned him about the matter, yet Harrington stubbornly refused to disclose any information, but followed it up with a sly grin. Isn’t he going to return? Surely, he must!

In the hypothetical scenario where Joey Quinn appears again in “Dexter: Resurrection”, it wouldn’t be accurate to say that his return is solely to cater to the legacy fans’ wishes. While it’s true that many fans would undoubtedly enjoy seeing Dexter’s former adversary once more, there’s a solid narrative reason for his comeback. Given Joey Quinn’s potential knowledge of Dexter’s secret, this plot thread seems ripe for exploration in the sequel series. During Desmond Harrington’s interview on “Final Cut”, he was asked if Quinn knew about Dexter’s secret, and he responded affirmatively.

In essence, although I may have personal opinions on the matter, the series title is Dexter. As a character, my role was to embody the storyline as it unfolded. I simply followed the writers and adapted to the direction they chose for my character’s development. As for predicting the plot twists, I’m not sure if I can claim that I did. My character’s appeal lies in the fact that he may seem simple-minded, but he was far from it.

It seems Harrington is making a convincing argument, but there’s a possibility he may be holding back some information due to the potential return of Quinn. Given Quinn’s cunning nature and questionable morals, it’s plausible that he had some insight into Dexter’s secret. Since Quinn was more focused on self-preservation than justice, he might have even sympathized with Dexter’s actions, which involved eliminating criminals through his dark passenger. Despite being a skilled detective, Quinn wasn’t as driven to uphold justice as someone like Sgt James Doakes. When Quinn enlisted Stan Liddy to investigate Dexter, he stopped his pursuit after Liddy was killed by Dexter, especially when he realized that Dexter had covered for him regarding the blood found on his shoe. Additionally, Quinn’s romantic feelings for Debra Morgan may have influenced his decision not to pursue Dexter aggressively.

As a cinephile, I can’t help but ponder what Quinn’s response might be if Dexter’s true identity as the Bay Harbor Butcher is revealed in the Resurrection. Given his past and their shared history, it’s easy to imagine that he would be torn apart with conflicting emotions. After all, they were once close, and Debra, his sister, was also a part of this intricate web. Since we learned in New Blood that Quinn is still employed by Miami Metro, one can assume he would join Angel Batista’s pursuit to bring Dexter to justice in the upcoming sequel series.
