Although fans weren’t immediately excited about the new Skate game, a surprisingly large number of people have already tried out the early access version.
After a fifteen-year hiatus, a new Skate game is finally available. EA had previously seemed to move away from realistic skateboarding games, but in 2025, the fourth installment launched in early access. The game is completely free to play, with optional cosmetic items available for purchase.
Despite some criticism of how Skate was made, players are still very excited about it. The game’s official social media accounts have announced that more than fifteen million people have tried the early access version since it became available in September 2025.
Skate Has Drawn Millions Of Players Already
Launching a game with fifteen million players is a huge accomplishment, no matter the series. Apparently, EA didn’t realize how much demand there was for skateboarding games controlled with flick motions.
Because the initial release and the full game are free, many of the downloads were likely just people trying it out. We don’t know if those players continued playing or if they made any purchases within the game.
As a long-time Skate fan, I’ve been really disappointed with how they’re handling the money side of the new game. It feels like you’re constantly being pushed to spend extra money, which is frustrating. Plus, a lot of us who loved the original games aren’t thrilled with the art style – it’s way more cartoonish than what we’re used to. And honestly, the fact that it *needs* to be online all the time totally ruins the experience, with players just appearing and disappearing. It pulls you right out of the game!
Look, if the game keeps a ton of players and people keep spending money on it, honestly, all the complaints fans have probably won’t matter much. Let’s be real, in this industry, money talks – it always does.
