Despite Full Release, Star Wars Outlaws Get New Creative Director

As a longtime Star Wars fan, I’ve seen my share of ups and downs in the galaxy far, far away. But when it comes to Star Wars Outlaws, I’ve found myself ambivalent – not loving it, but not hating it either. So, hearing that Ubisoft has a new Creative Director for the game, Drew Rechner, and they’re listening to the community’s feedback is music to my ears!

As a gamer, I didn’t join the chorus of critics who loathed Star Wars Outlaws upon its debut. Granted, it wasn’t an outstanding open-world game, but it certainly didn’t deserve the title of the worst. It was lacking something, and it seems Ubisoft agreed, as their recent blog post about the game reveals not just Title Update 1.4, but also a new Creative Director, Drew Rechner, stepping in for Julian Gerighty.

In the official blog post on the Star Wars Outlaws site, Ubisoft said:

Outlaws,

I’m thrilled to take on the position of Creative Director for Star Wars Outlaws at Massive Entertainment, where I’ll collaborate with a dedicated team and our global co-development studios, alongside Lucasfilm Games. I wanted to express my gratitude to you, our community, for your enthusiastic reception of the game. Your fan art, comments, and videos have not gone unnoticed and are appreciated by us all. They continue to bring joy and inspire us as we work on this project. We hope you’re enjoying your adventure across the Outer Rim with Kay and Nix so far.

Apart from expressing our gratitude for your positive comments, we value your constructive feedback equally. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us, as they help us improve Star Wars Outlaws even more. Today, I’d like to share some of the key areas we are focusing on to ensure that the game delivers an exceptional experience for you.

From before launch and continuing into post-launch, we have been gathering data from and listening to you. This takes place not only formally through our analytics, user tests, reviews and media feedback, our Star Wars Outlaws Bug Reporter, crash reports, and other mechanisms, but also informally when we see your YouTube videos and Reddit, Discord or other social media posts. We deeply care about your experience with the game, and use all the data and feedback possible to see the friction points you are encountering, what you’re enjoying, and where we can further improve certain elements that matter the most to you.

Based on your valuable input, we’ve made changes to the title in three instances, addressing some of your major issues like eliminating bugs, smoothing out tricky spots in crucial missions related to stealth, fine-tuning the speeder camera and collision system, among other enhancements. However, there are still three critical aspects where we aim to elevate the gameplay experience even more.

In terms of enhancing the game, the primary focus lies on combat, offering a chance to enhance its complexity and boost excitement levels, thereby appreciating your strategic moves and accuracy even more. The second crucial aspect is stealth, which involves making enemy detection clearer and more consistent, as well as giving you options for approaching each situation. Lastly, we’re working on refining character controls, aiming to make cover use more reliable, climbing more responsive, and overall improving the smoothness of control interactions.

You can anticipate a greater focus on player choice than ever before as we reveal more information about our upcoming celebrations. This could mean stealthily navigating encounters, charging ahead with blazing guns, or anything in between. In the coming weeks, we’ll share more detailed insights about the modifications to these aspects and other changes. The grand finale will be Title Update 1.4, scheduled for release on November 21st, coinciding with the Steam launch and the first story pack, Star Wars Outlaws: Wild Card.

Dear Players, once more, we appreciate your continued support and valuable feedback. We eagerly look forward to you further journeying through the galaxy alongside us. For those of you who are newcomers, seize this opportunity to embark on an exciting adventure across the Outer Rim with Kay and Nix!

We don’t know exactly what the next update for Star Wars Outlaws will bring, as indicated in the post, the community has been asking for fixes and new features. It’s possible that there will be many improvements to enhance gameplay, but at this point, we can only speculate. The team has promised to reveal more details about Star Wars Outlaws Title Update 1.4 on their social media channels, and it’s set to release on November 21st, so we should find out soon!

By now, you’ve undoubtedly heard about the Assassin’s Creed Shadows delay, but did you know Star Wars Outlaws’ performance directly contributed to Ubisoft’s decision? It’s true, and TopMob reported on the matter recently!
