Summary
- The original Destiny Tower received a mysterious and surprising update with lights and decorations.
- This accidental Tower update may be related to a scrapped event named Days of the Dawning and a forgotten schedule date.
- Bungie has yet to acknowledged the surprise update, leaving players to enjoy it before it’s removed.
Players of the game Destiny have observed an unexpected and enigmatic update to the Tower zone, adorned with lights and ornaments, seven years after its initial release. Although the original Destiny remains playable, it was largely overshadowed in 2017 when Destiny 2 officially launched, as Bungie focused their efforts primarily on the latter title.
Although Bungie’s “Destiny 2” has thrived for over 7 years, offering numerous expansions, updates, and content, some devoted fans still yearn for the original game’s charm. Interestingly, Bungie has been incorporating content from the original “Destiny” into the sequel, such as reviving iconic raids like Vault of Glass and King’s Fall, along with weapons like the Icebreaker sniper rifle. Remarkably, even with these retro additions, some gamers continue to play the original “Destiny,” and those who did found an unexpected update hidden within the Tower.
Online reports surfaced on January 5 about an unusual and unexpected update to Destiny’s central hub, The Tower. Upon logging in, gamers noticed Ghost-like lights hanging in a pattern reminiscent of past seasonal events such as The Dawning. However, unlike previous occasions, the social space was devoid of snow, and the banners flying were distinctly different from those seen during live events. Furthermore, there were no other signs suggesting an active event, as players didn’t receive any new quest indicators or messages pointing to fresh content.
Accidental Destiny Tower Update Could Be From a Scrapped Event
Fans started speculating about the current situation without any confirmation from Bungie or the game itself. Some players, like Breshi and others on Reddit, remembered an abandoned event called Days of the Dawning, which was initially planned for 2016 after Destiny’s successful Taken King expansion. As Breshi demonstrates in the video, the unused resources seem strikingly similar, if not identical, to what is now found in The Tower area. Therefore, many believe that the event might have been given a future date when it was scrapped, with the intention of eliminating it later on as Bungie probably thought Destiny wouldn’t be active during that time.
As of now, Bungie hasn’t commented on the Destiny 1 Tower, leaving its future uncertain. In 2017, a significant shift occurred within the franchise as all live and seasonal events were transferred to Destiny 2 following its release, effectively freezing the original Destiny in its current state. Although this isn’t an officially announced event, players might stumble upon an unanticipated surprise before Bungie eventually takes it down.
