As a dedicated Guardian who’s navigated through countless Light battles and Darkness encounters since the early days of Destiny, I can’t help but feel a renewed sense of excitement as Bungie unveils the upcoming changes to exotic class items in Destiny 2. The introduction of these customizable pieces has always intrigued me, offering tantalizing glimpses of exotic perks previously exclusive to other classes.
On August 20th, Bungie shares that Xur will start selling exotic class items for Destiny 2 gamers. The Final Shape remains a highly sought-after expansion for Destiny 2, wrapping up the decade-long narrative revolving around Light and Darkness. Alongside the campaign, this expansion brought forth an abundance of content such as new and returning exotics, the franchise’s initial 12 player activity, and much more.
In promotional previews, Destiny 2: The Final Shape introduced class-specific exotic items that could feature two exotic abilities chosen from a broader selection of options. This personalization aspect made these items highly prized, as they provided access to exotic abilities exclusive to other classes. However, acquiring these Destiny 2 class exotics became a contentious issue, prompting players into a 2-player cooperative activity that split the player base. Later on, Bungie expanded methods for farming the armor, but due to player feedback, the studio remains committed to finding additional ways to make the gear more accessible.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that Bungie has announced a new feature coming in Update 8.5.0.2 on August 20! Starting from Friday, August 23, we can purchase a randomly rolled Exotic Class Item from Xur, the weekend merchant in Destiny 2. However, remember that each week following this initial sale will still be subject to random chance, so these items won’t always be available every weekend.
When Exotic Class Items Will Arrive with Xur in Destiny 2
- August 23
Bungie hints that there’s more to come regarding how Exotic Class Items are obtained in the game. The team has been taking player suggestions into account, as many are still dissatisfied with the recent changes to exotic class item farming in Destiny 2, which they find insufficient. Bungie suggests that they have plans for future updates, but these are still in the early stages and will require time before they can be fully implemented. In the meantime, players can continue completing the mission, meeting the weekly challenge, and searching chests around Pale Heart for chances to obtain different versions of the item.
It appears that player feedback has grown significantly significant to Bungie, the developer, as they’ve also sought to allay community concerns about the franchise’s future following recent layoffs. Bungie plans to disclose the future of Destiny soon, not only promising updates and open communication about the franchise, but hinting that the studio is actively planning for the next multi-year phase as well. While details on what this entails beyond the planned episodes are sparse, Bungie has promised to keep players informed once a release date has been set.
