As someone who’s spent countless hours blasting through Strikes, grinding Gambit matches, and diving headfirst into Raids, I can confidently say that The Dawning has brought us some truly exceptional weapons to add to our Guardian arsenal. Among these new additions, there are standouts that shine brighter than the rest – weapons that have become my go-to choices in various activities.
Summary
- The Dawning event in Destiny 2 features limited time weapons and fun activities with seasonal currency.
- Glaives like Albedo Wing offer unique gameplay but are overshadowed by other weapons in the meta.
- Weapons like Zephyr, Avalanche, Stay Frosty, and Glacioclasm provide varying perks but may not be top choices
In the return of Destiny 2, comes the festive event, The Dawning. Similar to previous years, this event involves collecting ingredients and whipping up scrumptious goodies for the diverse characters within the Destiny universe. To participate, players initially need to secure Eva’s Holiday Oven 2.4, followed by a beginning quest from Eva Levante, an event vendor who is also a space grandmother.
After finishing the initial mission, by delivering Zavala his preferred Gjallerdoodles and then returning to Eva, gamers can gather seasonal currency called Dawning Spirit and any desired ingredients freely until the event concludes. During The Dawning, players also have an opportunity to obtain temporary Dawning weapons and a fresh addition to their collection while the event is active.
6. Albedo Wing
Underpowered Weapon On Underpowered Weapon Type
- One of the more accessible glaive options
- Glaives aren’t very powerful or popular
In Destiny 2, Glaives were a fascinating new addition when they were introduced with the expansion called The Witch Queen. They function as both melee and ranged weapons while also featuring a shield that strengthens each time an enemy is defeated. Out of all the available Arc glaives in Destiny 2, Albedo Wing stands out as the easiest to obtain. On the other hand, the options in Unexpected Resurgence and Nezarec’s Whisper are only accessible through the Trials of Osiris or the rotating Exotic mission called Presage.
In comparison to other Dawning weapons and those currently popular in the game’s meta, the newer combinations featuring glaives are less competitive. However, there are specific situations in the Crucible where glaives might prove useful. But overall, they aren’t widely favored.
5. Zephyr
Perks On Weapon Are Underwhelming
- Solid overall package
- Underpowered in high-end content
In the game Destiny 2, Zephyr is the oldest weapon associated with the Dawning event, meaning it’s been updated multiple times with each passing event. While its base stats are decent overall, the additional perks of Rimestealer and Cold Steel significantly enhance its connection to the Stasis fantasy. With a charged heavy attack using Cold Steel, Zephyr can slow and eventually freeze enemies. Each time a frozen target is defeated, Rimestealer provides Frost Armor. It also has the ability to stun Overload champions when they shatter with Slow, control Unstoppable champions by stunning them, and aid in freezing Barrier champions for other players, making them easier to defeat.
Unfortunately, Zephyr isn’t particularly strong outside Stasis compared to other sword choices such as the Bequest and The Lament. Even with its ability to stun champions, these foes can pose significant threats in advanced content like Nightfalls and Raids, where they can easily kill players with a single melee attack in Grandmaster Nightfalls. In PvP, swords are generally considered less important as primary weapons.
4. Avalanche
Good Rolls But Oversaturated
- Fun weapon rolls
- Oversaturated
In Destiny 2, the Avalanche machine gun has been updated with several sought-after features, such as Heal Clip for health regeneration during reloads after defeating enemies, Collective Action for boosting teammate’s elemental abilities, and Incandescent for triggering Solar explosions upon enemy kills. It stands alongside other popular Solar heavy machine guns like Fixed Odds from the Duality dungeon and Speleologist from Episode: Echoes as alternatives to more challenging-to-acquire choices.
With those rolls, the Avalanche serves a functional purpose in a player’s collection, but the Adaptive Frame is prevalent on more attractive alternatives such as the Hammerhead, Commereration, and Song of Ir Yut. The former pair are restricted to raids, while the Hammerhead can be obtained through the Onslaught activity. Moreover, in PvP scenarios, the rolls do not advantage the Avalanche.
3. Mistral Lift
An Accessible Raid And Dungeon DPS Weapon
- Many great combinations for a DPS role
- Linear Fusion Rifles are not in the meta right now
The latest addition to The Dawning is called Mistral Lift, a potent Aggressive Frame heavy Linear Fusion Rifle. It boasts a superb perk selection. Combos such as Envious Arsenal paired with Bait and Switch, Reconstruction coupled with Vorpal Weapon, and Envious Assassin teamed up with Precision Instrument work seamlessly with the 3-round burst of this Linear Fusion Rifle.
As a gamer, I’ve noticed that there are plenty of powerful boss-damaging weapons available nowadays compared to before, making the Mistral Lift less exceptional at the moment. High DPS builds are heavily dependent on specific artifact perks and modifiers that change with each activity, so a significant drop in damage output can occur if players don’t align with the activity’s modifiers. Rocket Launchers and Grenade Launchers deal more damage but have limited ammo, while Linear Fusion Rifles can sustain damage for longer periods. However, Linears are less versatile in PvP situations due to their niche usage.
2. Stay Frosty
Well Balanced Pulse Rifle For Activities
- Excellent in both PvE and PvP
- Not very unique
Apart from the Cold Front SMG that appears to be out of service, Stay Frosty is currently the sole Primary Kinetic weapon available during The Dawning event. In PvP, it serves as a primary damage dealer and boasts perk combinations like Encore + Headseeker, Moving Target + Kill Clip, and Lone Wolf + Desperado that are exceptionally beneficial for players. For PvE, it can be equipped with Rimestealer + Headstone to add some exciting Stasis-related actions.
Stay Frosty is a very fun weapon, working hard on plenty of PvP maps and modes, but it’s hard-pressed to move the needle compared to other ubiquitous PvP picks like Graviton Lance, No Time To Explain, and even the BxR-55 Battler. There are better options out there for players to grab, but Stay Frosty is still a very competitive weapon in the pool of Legendary Pulse Rifles.
1. Glacioclasm
A Special Ammo Menace
- Top-tier weapon in many activities
- No longer best-in-class in PvE
The Glacioclasm is incredibly versatile and beneficial in various activities. Regardless of its perk combination, it generally delivers impressive results. In PvP, the Glacioclasm can be quite formidable with perk combinations such as Under Pressure + High Impact Reserves, and Slideshot + Desperate Measures. It also shows promise in boss DPS with perks like Envious Assassin + Vorpal Weapon, Overflow + Reservoir Burst.
Glacioclasm has been receiving attention, but weapons like Riptide from the Crucible or Deliverance from the Vow of The Disciple raid are considered more useful in Player versus Environment (PvE) because they deal Stasis damage and can stun champion enemies. However, Glacioclasm remains a favored choice due to its high damage potential in both PvE and Player versus Player (PvP).
