  • Bungie continues to fight against Destiny 2 cheaters while preparing new updates for the game.

As a seasoned Destiny 2 player with countless hours invested in the game, I can’t help but feel a sense of satisfaction seeing the legal victory Bungie has achieved against cheat sellers like AimJunkies. It’s like finally winning a hard-fought battle in the Crucible after being swarmed by cheaters for so long.

In a recent development, the cheat seller known as AimJunkies has been turned down when they requested a new trial against Bungie. The initial lawsuit was filed by Bungie against AimJunkies and its parent company Phoenix Digital back in June 2021. This new trial request came approximately a year after AimJunkies were ordered to pay over $4.3 million to Bungie for infringing on the company’s DMCA rules and circumventing security measures related to Destiny 2

Bungie has a long history of taking on legal fights against groups that aim to cheat or harm players in Destiny 2 unfairly. One of the most recent and significant cases is with AimJunkies, as Bungie is dedicated to keeping providers of cheats from spoiling the gameplay experience in the Crucible and competitive Trials of Osiris. Over two years after filing the initial lawsuit, a judge ruled in favor of Bungie in February 2023, deciding that AimJunkies had infringed on Bungie’s DMCA and reverse-engineered Destiny 2 to create and sell their cheats. The court ordered AimJunkies to pay the studio $4.3 million to compensate for damages and legal costs. However, the legal dispute is not over yet, as AimJunkies has submitted two appeals against Bungie this year

As reported by TorrentFreak, AimJunkies was denied a new trial request by the Seattle District Court, and the group will not proceed with either of its appeals against Destiny 2 developer Bungie. Firstly, the cheat group failed to convince the court to overturn the jury verdict issued back in May 2024. The Court of Appeals also affirmed the $4.3 million arbitration award to Bungie, with an additional $63,210 that must now be paid by Phoenix Digital and all individual defendants. The court noted that the scale of the award is “not completely irrational,” and US District Judge Thomas Zilly ruled that Bungie had provided enough evidence to definitively prove that AimJunkies infringed on the company’s copyrights.

Destiny 2 Cheat Seller AimJunkies Has Been Denied a Trial Request for Two of its Appeals

  • AimJunkies tried to appeal the court’s decision in favor of Bungie and the $4.3 million arbitration award.
  • The group failed to convince the court to overturn the jury verdict and was denied a trial.
  • The arbitration award was affirmed, meaning Bungie can now collect it from AimJunkies.

After the recent decision, Bungie can now claim the arbitration prize since AimJunkies’ appeal attempts were rejected. This seems to be a clear victory for the company as Bungie persists in its ongoing fight against Destiny 2 cheaters who jeopardize the game’s security

As legal disputes with cheaters are ongoing, Bungie is still working on updates for Destiny 2. The third act of Destiny 2 Episode 1: Echoes was released on August 27, wrapping up the Echoes storyline. Episode 2: Revenant is set to debut in October, bringing fresh content such as new story missions, legendary equipment, weapons, and Exotics
