Destiny 2: Keen Thistle God Roll Guide

Despite the fact that Trials of Osiris represents Destiny 2’s premier PvP mode, it’s interesting to note that the gear you can earn from frequent play offers exceptional rolls not just for PvP, but also for PvE. For instance, the recently introduced Keen Thistle in the Trials of Osiris loot pool is an Aggressive Frame Solar sniper rifle boasting PvE-friendly attributes such as Bait and Switch, along with a variety of PvP-focused perks.

Let me share an overview of the optimal Keen Thistle weapon configurations for both Player versus Environment (PvE) and Player versus Player (PvP) scenarios in Destiny 2, as well as some additional options based on your specific build or gameplay style.

This way, you can choose the setup that best suits your needs!

Destiny 2: Keen Thistle PvE God Roll

As a fan, I find that the Keen Thistle, although primarily designed for Trials of Osiris, offers some impressive perk combinations for PvE, particularly when it comes to boss DPS or tackling tankier targets during add-clear. If you’re in need of a sniper rifle to fill your Energy slot and you’re tired of using Succession or Critical Anomaly, Keen Thistle could be an excellent alternative for you.

Here’s the Keen Thistle PvE god roll:

Column 1 Column 2 Column 3 Column 4 Masterwork
Arrowhead Brake Appended Mag Envious Arsenal Bait and Switch Handling

Thistle’s preferred Damage Per Second (DPS) choice for heavy weaponry, Envious Arsenal, automatically reloads the gun after inflicting damage with its alternative firearms. Meanwhile, Bait and Switch offers a 30% damage boost when all three weapons are used within a short span, creating an effective combination.

Just like The Supremacy and Praedyth’s Revenge, the Keen Thistle also boasts the ability to roll double ammo perks. With Triple Tap combined with Fourth Time’s the Charm, it continuously replenishes ammunition into its magazine. However, unlike rapid-fire frame sniper rifles, the base damage per second (DPS) of Keen Thistle is relatively lower. Other notable features include Incandescent, which generates Solar explosions in the third column, and Vorpal Weapon, which increases damage by 15% in the fourth.

Destiny 2: Keen Thistle PvP God Roll

Instead of aggressive frame snipers not being widely used in player versus player combat compared to adaptive frames, there are a few advantages that the keen thistle offers which might be worth experimenting with within Shaxx’s training ground.

Here’s the Keen Thistle PvP god roll:

Column 1 Column 2 Column 3 Column 4 Masterwork
Arrowhead Brake Accurized Rounds Snapshot Sights Closing Time / Opening Shot / Moving Target Range

In the third column, “Snapshot Sights” stands out as the best choice for enhancing your aim-down-sight speed. While “Lone Wolf” offers a good substitute, its slower aim-down-sight speed might make it harder for you to respond swiftly to potential dangers.

As a devoted fan, I’ve discovered an impressive setup for my beloved Keen Thistle: Accurized Rounds, Range Masterwork, and a Ballistics mod (or even an Adept range mod) have it firing at maximum range already. This means the perk in the fourth column is what truly sets this weapon apart for me.

Opening Shot and Moving Target each grant 10 aim assist, but Opening Shot is particularly beneficial if I’m not yet at maximum range. It’s a fantastic choice to have on Keen Thistle.

Another exceptional perk for this weapon is Closing Time. Despite the recent nerfs on special weapons, Closing Time remains an outstanding option for my Keen Thistle, providing me with extra handling to close in on enemies swiftly.

How to Get Keen Thistle in Destiny 2

The rare item, Keen Thistle, is obtained through the Player versus Player mode, Trials of Osiris, which is accessible only during weekends (or during periods when Iron Banner isn’t active). Just like Nightfalls, Trials of Osiris follows a cycle of rotating featured weapons.

If Keen Thistle is the highlighted weapon, visiting the Lighthouse allows you to obtain an Adept version of it. Regular versions are accessible regardless of the featured weapon, but the prizes lean heavily towards the spotlighted one. Once you’ve acquired a single copy of Keen Thistle, focus on Trials Engrams at Saint-14 in the Tower to get more.
