Destiny 2 Launched Rite Of The Nine Event Weeks Before They Meant To

Bungie is no stranger to making mistakes with Destiny 2, but this is one of their craziest ones so far.

Today, an update was rolled out for Destiny 2, which introduced Heresy Act 2 to gamers. However, it was something else that sparked a lot of interest: it appears that the Rite of the Nine dungeon event might have started prematurely, approximately three weeks ahead of its scheduled start date.

It appears that the scheduled start date for the event, initially set for April 1st and involving the release of Heresy Act 3, has apparently been prematurely activated on the part of Bungie.

Not only that, but players are getting rewards. Unfinished ones, at that.

Bungie has already responded with an X post acknowledging their mistake and stating that players will be unable to use their rewards “until further notice,” most likely around when it was supposed to start.

The Fun Is Over Already

The Rite of the Nine is a complimentary occasion, meaning you don’t need any season passes or expansions to participate. It refreshes older dungeons and offers fresh prizes upon their completion.

However, Destiny Bulletin pointed out on X that Bungie appears not to have fully completed the rewards, resulting in incompletely-received versions by players. On the other hand, PC Gamer reported that when they tested it, the system seemed to function quite well overall.

At the moment I’m writing this, it appears that Bungie has stopped allowing players to participate in Rite of the Nine activities, based on information from their official Bungie Help account on X. Consequently, gamers can no longer explore unfinished dungeons for placeholder loot.

Over the past few years, Destiny 2 has encountered several challenges. Bungie, its developer, had to make significant reductions in workforce last year, even as they continued to bring on new team members. They also faced criticism over the hefty 300 GB download size for The Final Shape expansion and unintentionally reduced the drop rates for exotic items significantly.

When the Rite of the Nine event goes live as planned, it appears to be an excellent chance for both new and returning players to dip their feet in, as the event itself will be complimentary.

The Heresy storyline kicked off as early as February, coinciding with the debut of Act 1 and a joint Star Wars event.
