Destiny 2 Launches Its First-Ever Epic Raid

Destiny 2 has launched its first-ever epic raid, a fresh take on the Desert Perpetual Raid. Players will face new challenges, puzzles, and tougher enemies. Completing the raid unlocks special in-game rewards, including an exotic weapon, and also gives players the chance to buy a jacket and bag through the Bungie Rewards program.

So, the new Desert Perpetual Raid dropped in *Destiny 2* on July 19th with the Edge of Fate expansion, and it’s a pretty big deal. What’s really cool is that after finishing the first encounter, my fireteam and I got to *choose* which encounters we wanted to tackle next – it’s not a set path like raids used to be, which is a huge change and a lot more fun!

Destiny 2 Epic Raid and World First Information

Okay, so the new Desert Perpetual raid is finally live! And for the first 48 hours, it’s in Contest Mode, which means things are going to be seriously challenging. Enemies are way tougher and hit harder, and they’ve turned off Fireteam Power, so we’re all on a level playing field. They’re suggesting we be at least 300 Power level before jumping in, and honestly, expect to do less damage than usual. The cool part? If you beat it on the first try during Contest Mode, the loot will be top-tier – Tier 5! After that, it’ll drop as Tier 4, but you’ll have a shot at upgrading it to Tier 5 with each completion. The first fireteam to finish gets the coveted World First belt, and anyone who completes it within those first 48 hours will snag an exclusive emblem called Fractured Timeline. Let’s get this done!

I’m so hyped for The Desert Perpetual raid! If you want to jump in on opening weekend, you’ll need to own the *Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate* expansion. The fireteam leader also needs to have already beaten the regular version of The Desert Perpetual. And get this – you need a full fireteam of six to even start! If you’re playing with fewer, you’ll need six people to *begin* the raid and then others can drop out. Just a heads-up from Bungie, you’ll have until December 5th at 9:59am PT to finish the raid – either the normal or epic version – to unlock the awesome raid jacket and sling bag through Bungie Rewards. Gotta get those collectibles!

Contest Mode is a special, timed challenge in *Destiny 2* for completing raids. When it first launched in 2019, it lasted 24 hours, but Bungie increased it to 48 hours in 2023 to give the first teams to finish more time to earn rewards. Any player who meets the requirements can join. Once Contest Mode ends, the standard version of the raid becomes available.

For fans of *Destiny 2*, raid weekends are always a big event, with many watching to see who can complete the difficult challenges first. The latest expansion, *Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate*, didn’t have a strong start on Steam in July, so the race to be the first to finish the new ‘Contest Mode’ could help get more players interested.
