Destiny 2 May Have Broke a Lot of Godrolls For Endgame PvE Content

Destiny 2 May Have Broke a Lot of Godrolls For Endgame PvE Content

Highlights

  • Destiny 2‘s recent patch nerfs Envious Assassin and disrupts the godroll meta by resetting magazine overflow when swapping loadouts.
  • The altered mechanic hampers loadout flexibility in PvE encounters, especially with popular weapons like Edge Transit, where loadout-swapping was popular.
  • A workaround exists by consistently swapping armor pieces with the same mods to maintain magazine overflow benefits. However, this may not be a good-enough fix in some cases.

As a seasoned Guardian with countless hours spent traversing the cosmos of Destiny 2, I must say this latest patch has left me scratching my head more than a Hive knight trying to decipher their own cryptic symbols. The nerf on Envious Assassin and the subsequent disruption of our beloved godrolls is a tough pill to swallow.

Currently, Destiny 2 finds itself in an unusual position following recent Bungie layoffs and restructuring, causing some concern among fans about the game’s future as the excitement from The Final Shape expansion wanes. Recently, they released a new version of the Solstice event for added content before Echoes’ Act 3, due out at the end of the month. Although the seasonal event might not retain players’ interest, the accompanying patch was intended to enhance certain aspects – such as farming Exotic class items in Destiny 2. Unfortunately, the game is currently beset by bugs, and this patch aimed to address various issues, including a significant change in the preferred builds for many endgame weapons (godrolls).

In Destiny 2, Godrolls play a significant role during weapon upgrading as each firearm usually possesses at least one ideal roll for either Player versus Environment (PvE) or Player versus Player (PvP), sometimes even multiple outstanding rolls. The pursuit of godrolls has been somewhat reduced with the introduction of weapon crafting, but some weapons still require random perks to obtain, like the Brave Weapons. A popular endgame PvE perk is Envious Assassin, but Destiny 2’s Update 8.0.5 might have altered its effectiveness.

Destiny 2’s Godrolls May No Longer Include Envious Assassin and Similar Perks

Why Destiny 2’s August Patch Broke Loadout-Swapping With Envious Assassin

In Destiny 2, a recent patch addresses an issue where switching between standard armor mods and Reserve mods could result in having more ammo than the maximum allowed limit. This is important because if you’re using a weapon with Envious Assassin equipped and your magazine is overflowing, changing any weapons or mods in your loadout will reset the ammo capacity to its original amount. Although this might not seem significant, considering the update that altered ammo reserves for all weapons and Scavenger mod costs, it could potentially impact gameplay in certain content.

In many challenging player versus environment (PvE) scenarios within high-end content, players may switch their equipment setup, colloquially known as “menu gaming.” Not every player employs this method, but it can be advantageous in dungeons and raids to adjust weapons and modifications prior to damage stages or while searching for ammo during busy sections with additional enemies. However, the widely used Edge Transit Brave weapon in Destiny 2 no longer allows for such flexibility, as it has been dominant in terms of damage output for some time now.

As a seasoned Destiny 2 player with countless hours logged in the game, I must say that the recent change to Envious Assassin has left me quite frustrated. The ability to overflow magazines and switch weapons freely was a unique mechanic that allowed for strategic flexibility during encounters. However, this latest update seems to have taken that away, forcing us to stick to a single loadout throughout an entire encounter if we want to preserve our overflowed magazine. This is particularly challenging when I’m trying to adapt to the ever-changing dynamics of a raid or strike. It feels like a step backward in terms of player freedom and creativity, and it’s disappointing to see such a fun mechanic being limited in this way.

To bypass the need for resetting magazines that have overflowed, players can employ a strategy using either the Envious Assassin or other firearms, like the Origin Trait Cast No Shadows. By swapping between different armor pieces without incurring a loss of additional rounds in the magazines, even transitioning Destiny 2 Exotics on the fly is possible, provided they exchange to armor pieces equipped with identical mods as the initial ones.

Loadout-Swapping Remains Accessible at The Cost of Envious Assassin Rolls

While this update doesn’t completely resolve the issue of gear swapping during encounters in Destiny 2’s Dungeons and Raids, it remains a frequent practice. For instance, using weapons like Graviton Lance for clearing adds efficiently in the initial two encounters of Warlord’s Ruin is beneficial, but it lacks in DPS, so it’s usually replaced with something else just before the damage phase begins. Consequently, though this patch has reduced the need for loadout-swapping, guns featuring Envious Assassin are now less effective in this situation.

In the heat of a battle within Destiny 2, it might be something Bungie considers improving overall, however, eliminating a perk like Envious Assassin may not be the ideal approach. It’s uncertain if they’ll find another solution, but for now, players should review their loadouts carefully.
