Highlights
- Patch 8.0.5 for Destiny 2 reduced Exotic class item drop rates.
- Players report needing multiple runs in Overthrow activity for an Exotic drop.
- Bungie is working on a fix for the Tier 4 Overthrow Chests issue.
As a seasoned Destiny 2 player with countless hours under my belt, I must admit that this latest patch left me scratching my head more than it should have. The update promised increased drop rates for Exotic class items from chests in the Overthrow activity, but it seems like the opposite has happened instead.
As a dedicated Destiny 2 player with countless hours invested in this game, I must admit that the recent update has left me rather disheartened. The new patch that went live this week seems to have drastically reduced the drop rates for Exotic class items, making it increasingly challenging for players like myself who are eager to collect these rare and coveted loot pieces. This change has certainly added a layer of frustration to my gaming experience, as I find myself grinding through levels with little to no reward in sight. I can’t help but wonder if the developers considered the impact this would have on dedicated players such as myself before implementing the update.
In the recently released update, version 8.0.5, commonly recognized by Destiny 2 players, there were balance modifications. This update also enhanced the Exotic class items that can be obtained from chests during the Overthrow activity, as mentioned in the patch notes, which specify that the likelihood of acquiring Exotic class items from these chests has been increased to make it more rewarding.
It seems there might be an issue with the distribution of items, as players are complaining that the probability of getting items from top-level chests has apparently reduced.
Bungie Aware Of Issue & Hotfix Is Imminent
In the community forum for Destiny, players have pointed out that it appears necessary to do numerous Overthrow missions to obtain an Exotic class item, a situation they believe contradicts the information provided in the patch notes.
Luckily, the team from Bungie has recognized the problem and is currently working on a solution. Here’s what they mentioned in the Reddit post.
It appears we’ve discovered a problem affecting the frequency of Exotic Class Items appearing in drops. Presently, Tier 4 Overthrow Chests do not enhance the probability of such items dropping, and they cannot be obtained from these chests either.
We’re currently developing a fix, aiming for a near-term hot fix.
In an upcoming update, we’re considering providing players with the opportunity to pursue particular bonuses or advantages (perks). As our plans become more concrete, we’ll share further details.
As a dedicated fan, I found myself eagerly anticipating Destiny 2’s The Final Shape DLC in June. However, the excitement was somewhat dampened by the massive 300GB install size that left some players, including me, scratching their heads.
After the Bungie layoffs that took place on July 31, approximately 17% of the company’s staff – a total of 220 employees – were unfortunately let go.
Although The Final Shape was well-received, surprisingly, layoffs happened merely two months following the DLC’s release.
